Galento bided his time in the seventh, but opened up in the eighth and put Singer down three times. Singer's handlers jumped in the ring on the third knockdown before the referee could complete the count.

The fans agreed with Ratner. Singer outboxed Galento, cleverly avoiding Tony's left hook. He had Tony swinging so wildly and desperately as to fall down.
