Molinares unintentionally lands a knock-out punch on Starling just after bell sounds to end the 6th rd. Starling was counted out aka K.O. by referee. Chaos and confusion ensue and the NJ commission ultimately deems the the bout a NC. Soon after this huge mishap, the advent of the "10 second warning sound" was implemented in professional boxing.
The WBA recognized Tomas Molinares as world welterweight champion. This was explained by Dr. Elias Cordoba Jr at the 67th WBA Convention held in October 1988 on Isla Margarita, Venezuela.
