ref: Lou Marsh
World Flyweight Title
Wilde needed his right glove replaced at the end of round 4, and there was a 45 second delay before the start of round 5. The Star reported that the crowd of 11, 000 was the largest ever to see a bout in Canada. At the end of the bout, there was a ceremony to present the winner with his national flag. As the Union Jack was being presented to Wilde, one of Wallace's seconds snatched it out of Referee Marsh's hands and placed it over Wallace's shoulders. "The conduct of little Wallace was in direct contrast to that of his manager and rubber. If they had been left at home in Philadelphia, Wallace would have been welcomed back here at any time for another bout and given great support. Wallace is a gentleman but the less said about the other pair the better...No weights were announced but Wilde weighed about 107 and Wallace 112." - Toronto Star

This was a great fight, filled to the brim with action. In general, Americans seem to have seen Moore as the winner and the British favored Wilde. According to the British, Moore did not "hit correctly, " by which they meant that he tended to use the open glove, and this must have cost him points with the British referee. Wilde was in serious trouble in rounds 16 and 17 but came back with a fast finish.
