I could see this one going either way. Alexis was miles better than Diego Corrales. Arguello's accuracy and power were tremondous. He WOULD land on Floyd . . the question is . . would he land ENOUGH??
I'll have to think about this one some-more. Arguello's jab and height-reach would give Floyd some issue, but so too would Floyd's speed, footwork, and counter-punching. Arguello would be eating a lot of punches.

Arguello liked a guy who came at him who he could counter.
Floyd generally likes this too. He likes to fathom a guy out in the early rounds and then slowly pick him and his style apart.
Floyd is the more versatile fighter IMO. I think that he'll take the early rounds as almost all of Arguello's opponents did.
In terms of styles I like Floyd but Arguello will hit him and hit him hard, and Alexis could execute every punch with excellent power so Floyd will have his hands full.
If Floyd can take the heat when Arguello turns it on then he can win the fight.

Your comparison of Alexis to Louis is interesting and thinking about it I think you are spot on.RazorKO wrote:Arguello reminds me of a smaller version of Joe Louis. Tremendously accurate, power in both hands and straight as arrow punches. And like Louis, Alexis has trouble with fighters that move and Floyd would not be standing infront of Arguello.
Mayweather wins a close UD.
Arguello was a beautiful fighter, but a cold blooded killer at the same time. I boxed for a good few years, mainly amatuer, and since I was in my teens I sometimes thought to myself, if I could have the skills and style of any fighter, who would it be?
To this day the answer is Alexis Arguello.
As good as Mayweather is, and he is one of the greatest ever, in the modern era, I think Arguello's accuracy and physical advantages would give him trouble.
My guess, and I stress guess, is Arguello W15.
