Brit fans disgrace
I pretty much agree with this.states wrote:I really wish people wouldn't boo anthems. It's immature, if nothing else. With that said, I can't really get that worked up about it. I wouldn't give a flying eff about someone booing 'my' anthem, because it means eff all to me.
I'm actually quite patriotic and lover cheering on our sports men and women and am extremely proud of my own families English ancestory.
However I just see it as sporting rivalry - no big deal really - people getting that worked out up about it really need to chill out.
I don't think those doing the booing would have been that bothered if the US fans had started giving it back, just a bit of football crowd banter.
There reall are more important things in life than getting all irate about this kind of rubbish.
Yeah because there was absolute mayhem when we lost to Croatia recently and to Portugal in both the recent World Cups and Euro championships when there was estimated over 100,000 thereWales wrote:How many arrests were there, not many I bet! When will people realise that it's not the fornicating 80's anymore!
No. It's because of the level of expose the fight had in the build up. Plenty of my mates had being saying "I see Ricky Hatton has got some big fight coming up... its on Sky Sports all the bloody time!".CB wrote:So why didn't this many people turn up against Collazo/Castillio etc. if they were just following him blind? The fact that he was taking on the P4P best fighter in the world is the reason that, that many people travelled in the effing first place!!
I don't think the Collazo fight was on quite the same scale was it. The chavs just felt like being a part of this one.

You sound like a football hooligan..............................oops, I'm not allowed to say that am I!CB wrote:I'm confused :(

Chelsea?

Bunch of sanctimonious pricks on this thread!
Why the eff do English football hooligans get the blame for everything? And hark at Mr they aren't real boxing fans, just jumped on the band waggon! eff off!
People travelling half the way round the world without tickets just to follow a home country boxer and they wouldn't know Mayweather until two weeks ago? So why didn't this many people turn up against Collazo/Castillio etc. if they were just following him blind? The fact that he was taking on the P4P best fighter in the world is the reason that, that many people travelled in the effing first place!!
Don't know about you but whenever I go to the boxing and the football it is never two seperate crowds. In fact speaking from experience I would say that the boxing crowds are a bit more "naughty" so to speak that your average football crowd.
Once again the Septics are feeling hard done by that the big bad British (thats for the jock on this thread because there was PLENTY of Welsh, Scottish, Northern Irish and Irish there but they all kept quiet I suppose?). Well eff 'em!! The booing was done to wind them (Americans) up and it certainly worked and I for one have not stopped laughing at the complete and utter total over reaction of boh the yanks and the leftie Brits ever since!!
eff me a bit of booing and we have suddenly disgraced every man, woman and horse you have there and all your war dead! Seriously get the eff over yourselves you bunch of snivelling little girls!!
And I always love the quote of they can't handle their beer!! Not on the evidence I saw.
Sorry if we have ruined your inbred views that we all speak like Prince Charles and like a nice cup of Earl Grey with our cucumber sandwiches. That couldn't be further from the truth.
Anyway i'm off to invade a small country for their oil................
Just because some people say things that you don't agree with, you turn up with patronising insults, calling people pricks & effing & jeffing!
Aren't people entitled to an opinion without being abused for having that opinion?
You must concede that the yobs that booed the anthem brought that behaviour from the football terraces.
Hatton is a massive City fan & a huge percentage of them following him were football fans, whose boxing knowledge was scant to say the least.
I don't think it is unreasonable to chastise them for their offensive behaviour, which although OK in football, is not OK in boxing.

I take it by this that you're getting at me? If so, you seem to have missed my post where I said;CB wrote: Once again the Septics are feeling hard done by that the big bad British (thats for the jock on this thread because there was PLENTY of Welsh, Scottish, Northern Irish and Irish there but they all kept quiet I suppose?). You're always going to get local rivalries (even then, note that I mentioned BRITISH fans in my posting above, so I recognise it can happen with non-English as well...you obviously missed that bit), but what you don't get in general is fans of other countries doing what the fans did last night. It doesn't take a great deal of thought to just have respect for just a few minutes.
If you're going to criticise then get your facts right and, here's a thought, read postings.
Back to the main point, even Hatton himself said he was disappointed with that part of your behaviour, so I'm actually wondering where booing the National Anthem actually came in your support of Ricky? At the end of the day, the only people who came out of this looking like prats was the people doing the booing themselves, yourself included possibly? Boxing legends, the fighters themselves, the general public, both Brit and US, all of the same opinion. You did yourself proud obviously, I salute you.....
the singer definitely doesn't go for "less is more", that's certain.Terry D wrote:I cringe when people boo national anthems, less so when it is the swaggering US anthem with every nooooooooooooooteah! dragged out for an eternity by some Rap-and-Bullshit singer. Even if, as was the case at the weekend, they do get Jermain Taylor to sing it.
Tom Jones was the best part about the US anthem, he was smirking at the dickhead they got to butcher it.
it was a really sickly national anthem. perhaps it turns out that the americans were booing that long vomit retch, and not the brit visitors.
anyway, being more serious, so what if a load of brits got a bit jingoistic. i'm sure america has imposed itself on enough countries enough over the years. saw a BBC docu set in haiti, in which american gung ho military crusaders confused voodoo with satanism and sought to teach the poor sap/evil natives "the ways of God Almighty"; and I recall 1 military bigwig telling a member of the camera crew to "reach in your pocket" (or was it "spit on my boot"?) after they annoyed the soldiers, not realising the troops were being filmed by a camera.
Think Ray ("what did you think of that"?) Leonard is getting his knickers in a little bit of a twist.

Good idea; just don't blame it on football hooligans, as they are an ever so sensitive bunch!!! :Plowersmiths wrote:in light of the persuasive defence of booing, i have decided to boo at funerals, weddings, christenings and remembrance sunday.

Yeah, I was firmly up for Hatton because of his down-to-earth nature, as opposed to Mayweather's "money this" and "Money that", "I'm the best" shite... but then I had to turn againt Hatton b/c the roles reversed because of the crowd he brought along.Syntax Error wrote:Sadly, this fight seems to have attracted the football hooligan fraternity.
The majority of them know little about boxing & have jumped on this massive Ricky Hatton bandwagon that has been rolling around the UK.
The majority of them have probably hardly ever seen any of Ricky's fights & are only there for the ride.
I wanted Ricky to win, but I always felt that it would be a tall order & an upset if he did win.
There's been an embarrassing post fight phone-in on Talksport & the majority of callers have been shocked that Mayweather is actually a very good fighter.!![]()
Those Combat 18, neo-Nazi pricks hooligans seem to be everything that hatton is against. It's a pity he's guilty by association, b/c he's really a good lad.
In the end I was happy with a Floyd win b/c of Hattons fans to be honest.

Whoa there..! I didn't see any goose steppin' in Vegas. Nor did I hear any overt racism or anti-semitism. Nor was there any crowd trouble per se, either in or out of the venue.NaFianna wrote:Those Combat 18, neo-Nazi pricks hooligans
I did hear some drunken singing and chanting and a minority chose to boo the US anthem but it was hi-jinx and no more.
Hatton's fans spent a lot of cash getting to and whilst in Vegas last weekend; they had every right to enjoy themselves.

Can boxing fans not be football fans and vice versa? The problem is that everyone jumps to easily on the blame the football fans band waggon and 75% of the people on this thread are proof of that.
The national anthem got booed I would suggest is indicative of the British mentality abroad as opposed to whether they like football or not!!
Believe it or not the anthem was booed at a boxing match by people there to watch the boxing and has fornicate all to do with football!! Now get your head out of your arse with your boxing fans are holier than thou attitude and face up to the fact that it was a crowd of British boxing fans that went abroad and booed the national anthem regardless of whether they like football or not.
And to suggest that people travelled to Vegas who don't even like boxing (Not you the other chap) is ludicrous!
Hmmmm. Methinks double standards might be in evidence here. Now it would seem to be perfectly acceptable to a lot of people for the American Bernard Hopkins to bring up the booing of the US anthem, and how it will unite all decent minded people against Joe Calzaghe " in this war " if they fight.
Whilst it is also perfectly acceptable to the same pro American, anti English, for the same Bernard Hopkins to throw the Puerto Rican flag on the floor and wipe his feet on it twice.
Yeah right you are then, sanctimonious, hypocritical wankers. Let us have 8 pages of anti US / anti Hopkins treatment of the flag before we pontificate on the worth of other nations behaviour at the playing of a song please.
A bit of perspective could well be in order.

i was in vegas had the time of my life ,i thought it was shit to boo the us anthem because the yanks were great out there . the only few pricks i meet were english , i love my country but not the people ! like easy chants at boxing from people who piss there pants if they got in a ring this shit needs to stop
Girls , girls !! Calm down!! The truth is that some Americans are much more reverential towards their anthem than the English are to "God Save the Queen" but most of the drunken fans who booed it would be unaware of that. The same guys sat in the bars of Vegas before and after the fight and chatted amiably with American boxing fans, both black and white. Even though I`m Scottish and not English most Americans can`t tell the difference and I had to put up with lots of good natured gloating from the Yanks about " your boy " getting his ass wopped.
Frankly the Hatton supporters were a pain in the backside with their constant " one Ricky..." dirge but they were harmless enough and I didn`t hear a single American complaining about booing the " Star Spangled Banner". The American friends I was in Vegas with were too pissed to be bothered.
Of course its wrong to boo another country`s national anthem but its not as if we imposed a blood-thirsty dictator on them to protect our oil interests , then got them to go to war with their neighbours, then armed their neighbours so the war would be prolonged and nobody would win , then imposed a trade imbargo on them which killed thousands of their kids , then made up a story that they had weapons of mass destruction and invaded them , then fired millions of mega tonnes of high explosives at them killing thousands more of their civilians , is it?
Of course , the only nation justified in booing another country`s anthem is the Scots when we boo the English national anthem , which is an anti Scottish song which they still try to force us to accept as our own.
Never mind , when our agents Brown and Darling have finished their work there wont be an England , never mind an English national anthem , left to boo.
