Rees/Kotelnik
Seems as though Rees will have to fight his mandatory on the Chagaev/Skelton undercard. Not a forgone conclusion by any means, but will be a tad harder under the watchful eyes of Universum
If that happens it certainly puts Junior Witter in a good position to claim to be the man at the weight given that he has beaten convincingly one of the other champs.steve689 wrote:Kotelnik is a level above, i think he will take the belt on points,
Shame he can't go in against Rees though would be realy good carrer wise.
Why is he rejecting a high profile pay day with Hatton and instead looking to lose his belt in a low profile title fight that barely anyone but the die hards will hear about?
Even if he is afraid of losing his 0 to Hatton, he could get a few pay days after it as a gate keeper to the top level for up and comers to measure their perfomance against in relation to Hatton's.

i believe rees can win - kotelink had had chances at this level before and come up short although i think he beat m'baye in their last fight...
rees can win imho, there are too many gavin rees haters on this site who dont give him the credit he deserves for taking the title off a reigning champion in a fight few thought he had a chance to win

I've always felt Rees was a quality little fighter when I've seen him and fancied his chances against Mbaye. Only thing is he's not had a fight since and I don't know what kind of shape he's in. Once can only hope that with his camp doing so well he's been kept busy in the gym by Enzo Calzaghe.
Every fight I've seen him in though I've felt he's got bags of talent. A really good little pro. Kotelnik's good but he's not a top-notch fighter and if Gavin's in excellent shape he has the energy and ability to outpoint him, even in Germany

it shouldn't come down to "if he has the energy" at this level.
It's a chuffing world title fight..............phrases like "if he has the energy" and "if he's in shape" are so chuffing inappropriate in this context it's absolutely untrue.
And if Rees isn't in the shape of his life he should be cos once you win a world title I like to think that you can make a bob or two from it , compared to say, the man in the street. At the very least you should get one pretty decent payday.......win, and maybe more.

I'd say he's more likely to pick up a lte rounds stoppage - Gavin holds a shot pretty well and all, but is fighting 7lbs north of his best weight and will wear out against a solid gnawing puncher.rhino222 wrote:when witter beat kotelnik on points people we saying witter had not done well, but ive said all along kotelnik is a big noise in the division, he will bear rees by ud, of that i have no doubt.
Is it possible that part of the package for Skelton to get his world title fight was Rees had to travel to Germany to face Kotelnik.
Just seems fairly obvious that it would have featured in the talks but then again if it don't happen suppose it did not.
If the fight takes place Kotelnik is a league above in my view and stops Rees mid-late rounds, he pushed Witter close and would give anyone in the division a decent fight.

Possibly Khan is trying to stay at Lightweight for his first title shot and I don't think Rees would still be champion in 1 year when Khan moves up.oliverfennell wrote:Surprised Warren allowed himself to be beaten on the purse bids for this one, if it indeed true Rees is keeping the belt warm for Khan.

Kotelnik is not a big puncher, which is a bonus for Rees.
I think Rees stands a chance here, Kotelnik isn't a fast starter, and if Rees xcan get a few of the early rounds in the bag with his fast numerous punches ,then Kotelnik may be playing catchup , which adds pressure to him.
With Enzo in his corner Rees is going to be in great shape, if he does pull it off away from home in Germany , then he's got to be taken seriously.

Hopefully all three judges will be from Germany, unfortunately Kotelnik will beat Rees easily and Universum won´t have a chance to get their payback for that disgrace, that went down in England. I´m actually surprised the fight is in Germany, maybe Universum has already promised W arren/Khan a shot in England in return, since Universum never cared about Kotelnik. Or Warren wants to keep the belt away from Ricky Hatton, so he gives it to a real fighter. Nothing W arren would fear more than Ricky Hatton becoming the mandatory challenger to Amir Khan, haha.Old bones Ian wrote:Kotelnik is not a big puncher, which is a bonus for Rees.

If that happened it'd be likely to be in a couple of years when (and if Khan is established at that weight. If thats the case I can see Hatton falling off in a couple of years and Khan winning. Promotional nightmare though because they are both darlings of british boxing and whoever wins is likely to lose some popularity of the others fans a bit like Lewis on beating Bruno.Pong wrote:Hopefully all three judges will be from Germany, unfortunately Kotelnik will beat Rees easily and Universum won´t have a chance to get their payback for that disgrace, that went down in England.
