Alex Arthur.... going nowhere??

Post by rhino222 »

once again im concerned about this gung ho talented fella, yes, great guy, good with the media etc etc...

but he is weight drained to bits. for gods sake alex move up to lightweight before your career is ruined before its really got going.

foster junior is a decent domestic fella, similar in pedigree to matthew hatton, he should not be putting the likes of alex arthur on his arse.

think FW says he wanted to make a golden era of British fights, between the feather and ligght/light welter classes.

Arthur won't be a good world champion - indeed won't be one if he fights Guzman...But Arthur has been a dominant European force for certain and there is good UK opposition for him.

And Arthur could have a big domestic fight with Amir Khan in 08 or 09 in that brief window that they will have at lightweight (beofre Khan has to move up).

And if Scott Harrison jumps to Lightweight then a great Scottish 'dust up' is to be had. Some great domestic fights at Lightweight. Pointless punishing himself and risk loosing it all.

AA pleae move up!

Great effort by Foster, but AA really looks like he's got to move up to 135 - he looked like he was punching through water last night. A bad night for him, but he did well to pull out a win in the end.

Even when he picked it up half way, he still looked in desparate trouble to me, one big right hand away from disaster. Looked completely knackered, and the commentators didn't pick up on it at all. No surprise when he fell apart in the 11th, and God knows how he lasted the 12th.

Guzman would destroy him no doubt. a big matchup with Harrison is what they should be aiming for.

Scott looked a bit bloated in the face last night. good luck to him though :TU:

Arthur was exposed when Gomez mullered him - A little more looking at his record post Gomez will show he has been kept away from a certain type of fighter.

Foster putting a brave effort up as he did last night, was not part of the script, but again highlights the true level of Arthur in regards to a world force.

Foster is almost Gomez-lite, despite his strong showing. Gomez would have battered Arthur any time, provided he was fired up & in shape.

arthur is the classic allegedly deluded paper titlist armed with excuses.

If a theoretical matchup with guzman should take place, I can see it now. Arthur: I am fired up, ready to go for this megafight, preparations never been better

Post early KO loss: I wasn't really up for the fight, motivation problems, I was weight drained, I wans't myself in there

IT WILL HAPPEN EVERYONE CAN SEE IT!

Arthur should move up - Taking nothing away from Foster Jnr, he fought with heart but AA was weight drained and underperformed - Arthur for me is Euro level and I cant see him fulfilling his ambitions - He took too many hits for someone wanting to fight and beat the best.

Thay're holding out for Guzman to move up. Think they'll make possibly eek out two defences of the prestigious full title. Maybe Johanesson if he were to beat Mitchell.

He could also fight this guy who's #15 http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?hu ... &cat=boxer

After that it'll be a couple of non-titles at 135. They might do a fight with Harrison non-title.

I think Alex is a good fighter, good all round skills, decent chin, good heart etc, but he looks drained. His experience and excellent body punching won him the fight. From as early as the second round I was thinking Alex had to go to the body to slow this kid down. Alex does mix up his body shots well and hits equally hard with either the left hook to the body or right hand to the body.

Foster Jr last night was much better than when he fought Mathews, much more desire, heart and hunger, well conditioned and a fast right hand over the top which opponents only see when its too late.

I think Arthur should try to hold the title for two defences next year, earn money out of the title, defend against the Johannsen - Mitchell winner, then fight Harrison in a massive all scotland fight in the summer outdoors in Glasgow.

Then he could move up to lightweight in 2009.

allegedly is great at putting on these all British match-ups for world titles, and he has some great ingredients for these type of fights in the 130lb division.

On another note, hopefully he can work out an arrangement where Haye and Enzo fight, maybe at say a weigh in at 205lbs.

He can still have great fights vs British opponents. Guzman is a step way too far. Fight Khan. Move to lightweight where there's a # of exciting Brits.

Dont disagree, last night was awsome..

My issue is that its a world title and giving undeserving Brit fighters shots cos they are British seems ridiculous..thats what the British title was for!!

I was very disappointed in how many rights (and lefts) Arthur was shipping last night for a touted champ. If this guy is the best in these Isles why does he not possess a better defence. I find myself thinking in these scenarios that boxing really is a mugs game, even though I've been over the argument and I know that really it's not.
He has to remedy it or the likes of Pacman will hurt him ala Gomez.

As for Matthew Hatton good domestic fighter........on what do you base this comment? Name me the last British fighter Matthew Hatton has boxed, in fact here in the month of December, name me a British fight Matthew Hatton has been involved in this year, or last if it's easier for you - no looking on boxrec either. Hard isn't it.
Matthew Hatton is a coward who not 3 months ago was having his opinion aired via the medium of Sky Television staing that Kevin Anderson would be in for an easy night against Franny Jones. Cut to recent Boxing Monthly and there he is again airing his dissatisfaction of being "frozen out" of the British title mix whilst in his words having to "watch the likes of Francis Jones box for the title who he beat every round before knocking out". For anyone not aware Jones had wanted this fight for 15 months after beating Hatton in Manchester and being given a dodgy draw. He got his chance with 6 days notice the day after losing on points to Ali Nuumbembe. The fight ended in Jones getting retired by his corner after the sixth, between rounds, having been exhausted after two from the previous week's exertions. In BM, Hatton claimed a "knockout". NOW THAT IS A BOXER/CAMP WITH BOLLOCKS EAH? Yeah they're really freezing you out by making you box journeymen in MonteCarlo and Las Vegas.
MATTHEW HATTON'S OPPONENT LAST WEEK HAD LOST SEVEN OF HIS LAST EIGHT fights going into the contest, and that was Hatton's 37th maybe 38th fight.
He has been touted as boxing O'Donnell, Nuumbembe, Anderson, Minter, Watson. All of whom I believe would beat him with contemptuous ease.

Matthew Hatton has no class. He should stop his public gripes and delusions of real quality, his sneaky sideswipes at the noble efforts of others and concentrate on popping up in the background shot whenever his brother is on the tele for that 19th or 20th sip of water in the last 2 minutes. Or checking the seating plan on tele to make sure his big, bald head is coincidentally right in the MIDDLE of the shot on local shows filmed by Sky.
The crime is not being SH*T, because he's not that bad. Nor is it being a travelling sideshow using his brother's shows as an opportunity to box, as it's his living etc. The crime for me is slating other people in the press, who have beaten you in the eyes of many, including Sky, whilst pretending you are something so special AND YET AT THE SAME TIME CONSISTENTLY AND PESISTENTLY FAILING ABYSMALLY TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE.

Kevin Anderson stated in the Boxing Monthly recently that in his eyes Matt-who Hatton is one of these people that go around saying they'll box this person and that person and that person, but in actual fact never do. He is not alone in thinking this.
I hope news filters right through this forum and that those people with a genuine interest in Boxing learn the truth about Matthew Hatton "magazine interview warrior". It's a very different picture from the one he likes to paint, AND WHEN HE STOPS BESMIRCHING HIS OWN NAME, HIS OWN FAMILY'S NAME, BY DRAGGING OTHERS THROUGH THE DIRT FOR THE SAKE OF A BIT OF CHEAP, ILL-MERITED EXPOSURE, THAT DAY, I WILL STOP TELLING PEOPLE THE TRUTH.

keep it real

Arthur at the moment is only the interim champ and the fight against Foster Jnr was seen as a way for Arthur to stay active and "make a defence" until Guzman steps up and vacates. However, I wouldn't blame Guzman if he looked at that last night and thought he could force himself to 130 again dispose of Arthur in 2 rounds take the money and then jump up.

Arthur is killing himself to make the weight and has been for a long time. He even admitted it was a massive struggle last night. Its taking the snap out of his shots, his energy in the ring is lowered and overall its making him weak. The fact that his chin hangs out like a lantern is not helping him either nor was his complaceny in thinking Foster should not have been in there with him.

On the same note, all credit to Foster. He was struggling to make 126 and the step up certainly looks to have helped him out. He looked stronger in there and pressured Arthur very well. I'll be interested to see how he fares in his next fight.

Foster stay at 130 and for the sake of your own health Alex please make the leap to 135.

definitely. fights like these - and johanesson-gomez - should be for domestic/commonwealth or euro belts.

warren does like to put a W in just about every show he seems to stage; good on Dempsey for explaining the Interim thing and putting Warren on the spot, who admitted he's waiting for Guzman to move up & give his title to Arthur.

To me, in my house, with the world shut out.

That was a thrilling British Super-Featherweight title fight.

The proliferation of belts do not a world champion make.

Arthur is a gutsy, entertaining fighter but he hasn't stepped beyond British-European level yet.

Arthur-Murray-Harrison-Khan-Rees at 135 pounds would be a great tourney.

Arthur is a decent fighter to watch but he's Euro level at the most and doesnt like being under pressure, as for him moving up, they punch harder in the higher weights, which is likely a reason why Arthur is being kept at 130...... decent fighter but simply not world class....
