Olly Harrison is a trainer that I like a lot both as a person and as a trainer.

Met him on a number of occasions - and those that have done likewise will know although the man is an unassuming & quiet sort of chap - I am mightly impressed how he is handling himself with both Amir Khan and also Jamie Moore - both of those boxers have improved a lot.

I see threads recommending this and that for Ricky Hatton - look no further than Olly Harrison if indeed Hatton is to change allegience from Billy Graham - why for such madness Spud I will no doubt see many of you yet again write - I will reply with the following very basic reasons:

Hatton likes the comforts of Manchester when he is in training.

Hatton is good pals with both Khan and Moore and I am positive they will have spoke of their admiration of Harrison.

Before anyone asks nope do not know what Hatton is doing other than the mutterings about the rumours of fallouts within the Hatton camp which I have to say that many of you lot rubbished - there are changes afoot and I think that is very sad -

Hatton should look no further than himself for losing against Mayweather and down to the fact he wasn't good enough to beat him and never will - if the rematch happens - Mayweather will p*ss himself laughing thinking more easy money - the jungle drums are saying that Team Hatton may have given Graham the bad news already - and indeed there maybe a watering down of responsbilities for one other member of the team as well - something else none of you have touched on - the role of Kerry Kayes - I will be a little surprised if he stays and Billy Graham goes - Billy and Kerry are good pals.

But back to the purpose of my thread - I can think of many trainers for Hatton - IF and only IF Graham goes I think it should be Harrison - Harrison is a top top man and Hatton could do a lot worse.

I was waiting for someone to say Harrison.

That would be a step back from Graham.

M'Baye has looked a shadow of his former self recently, even in his win.

Khan has improved, but he still almost lost to Limond this year.

In summary, Harrison doesn't have enough experience at world level.

Naturally I will disagree.

But there is one thing you are forgetting in all this - MONEY.

To get the likes of Enzo, Steward or McGirt or Roach or someone else with World class credentials - Team Hatton would probably have to pay more than what they are doing for Graham - something I am positive they will not do.

Couple that with Ricky wanting to stay in Manchester amongst familar surroundings then you have your options diminishing - Would any of the trainers being mentioned want to come to Manchester - now of course Ricky could have a complete change of outlook and how he trains - but I would find that rather strange for a fighter who openly says he will be retiring in the next 12-18 months.

Harrison I am sure would not turn the job down - and with regards to you saying that he does not have the experience - I will say b*llocks - its not rocket science for people of Harrison's stature - you need to know about boxing and in my opinon Harrison is bloody good technically - and Harrison knows a lot about the workings of the sport behind the scenes - the thing is a lot of people will not know a lot about him because he never shouts about himself.

He hardly ever goes on the ringwalks with his fighters - normally he is in the ring well before his fighter starts the ringwalk - and then once the fight is over how many times have you seen him being interviewed on TV?? - You can count on one hand and still have fingers to spare.

People say he does not have the experience because quite simply they do not know the man - I will say again in my opinion a top trainer.

I cant see Ricky leaving Billy Graham if he did i think he will go to Bobby Rimmer, who worked with Hatton for many years.

You are bias towards Harrison because of your relationship with him. Harrison is no Calzaghe, and he hasn't been able to visibly improve a fighter drastically. Khan hasn't improved this year as much as peopl expected, the Limond fight is a prime example.

M'Baye lost to Rees and almost lost against Kotelnik. He has no current world champions in his stable. Harrison isn't a bad trainer, but wouldn't be an improvement over Graham.

I am actually of the firm believe there is no way Ricky should leave Billy Graham - no chance - certainly not at this end of his career - but - and this is crucial the rumours of shall we say a "tadge" of disagreement within the Team could be true - of course we cannot say for definiate can we??

All I am writing here is if the rumours are true - then Oliver Harrison should be an will be the man.

I just can`t see hatton moving from Graham at this stage of his career.

And as for moving to Harrison  .... as said it would be a move back.

Harrison may or not be a gifted coach/trainer...we will have to wait and see.

I don`t think Moore or Khan strenghen his claim any... as much as I like Jamie Moore, what makes him so good to watch is the uncertainty of him coming a cropper in just abut every fight...hardly a good sign :-?

And in truth Khan has yet to meet a serious challenge...sure Earl was considered it before...but...
Also the bigger development was done on Khan before Harrison.

I`m a firm believer in the fighter more often makes the trainer.
There are exceptions like Ingle and Calzaghe...though not many..

What does he teach Khan and Moore?

Khan needs to put more than his hands up and still can be hit with a straight right and Moorsey goes through some warseys.

Max: Let's say that Hatton joins the Calzaghe camp. What if he gets beaten in his first fight after the move?

What if he decided to ignore the word of God and actually fight the best fighter in the world?

Fight Calzaghe? That would be suicide.

Enzo would give him a better game plan and defence for Floyd, Hatton's style Is horrible and he shouldn't of been so overrated just over one win.

buts it not always been horrible, look at videos of hatton v tony pep etc, and jason rowlands, hatton awesome, the left and right stepping to unload on the inside, he rips opponents apart with his bodywork.

but what has happened, it has gone somewhere thats for sure...

Maybe they got too confident In the style that worked against Tszyu but made him look horrible against the rest.

Most journymen are now beating Maussa must easier and sparking him early.

thats a good comment, the ugly style wore down kostya, and he was the best at the time, so since then team hatton have presumed that if its beaten the best then it will take care of anyone........wrong !!

hatton needs to go back to what he does best, he may be able to bully guys at 140 with his strength but at 147 no chance, i honestly think hatton v cotto would be a fantastic fight while it lasted, but cotto would rip ricky a new anus !!

Whats Oliver Harrison's background in coaching then? I gotta be honest and say i'd never heard of the guy before he started coaching Khan. And i did find it strange that with all the hype he didnt go with a bigger name. This isnt a dig at Harrison at all, im just curious.

Oliver and Humphrey were two top class British Muay Thai fighters under Master Sken (along with Carl Thompson, incidentally.)

Humphrey was probably the better/more recognised fighter - he reminded me of a British Marvin Hagler, such was his intimidation factor. I remember him crushing Brummie legend Kash Gill in a Muay Thai match in Manchester in the late 80s. He was the star of the Sken stable of fighters.

Humphrey has a decent boxing career when he switched codes losing out to people like Tony Ekubia (remember him?) and Jason's brother Roy Rowland.

Oliver had a briefer 10 fight stint in pro boxing, although the best fighters dont always make the best trainers so you could say that he has definitly now found his niche as a trainer.
