Danny Green WBA Light Heavyweight Champion of the World!

Post by Marlin »

It was great to see Danny win a legitimate World Title last night. He pushed the fight with Drews and won a clear decision. Green made Drews taste his power early and then Drews wasn't interested for the rest of the fight. Danny did what he had to do to win the Title.

So now what next???

I think Danny should have a soild defence first up, not Benard Hopkins but not Clavero either, maybe someone like Garay. then step up for the big fight...

The fight I want to see Danny make is with Clinton Woods. I have said many times before that Green could beat Woods and now is the time to do it. I'm not sure how easy the fight would be to make especially if Calzaghe decides to fight Woods. If Woods losses the Title then Green should look elsewhere.

I have no interest in seeing him fight Mundine again and I don't want him to give Mundine a shot at his Title.

Danny Green seems very comfortable at Light Heavyweight. He made the weight limit by playing table tennis (yes, it can make you sweat) and did not look like he had to starve. He definitely looked weakened making the weight when he fought Mundine.

Paul Briggs is the only other fighter to have beaten Drews. Do you think he deserves a shot at Green?

Danny needs a fight pretty soon as he did not raise much of a sweat last night and it was not due to his actions in the ring.

Stipe Drews had more reverse gears than an Italian tank and put up a disgraceful performance in running backwards, clinching and putting in a total non-performance that was difficult to watch. Shite Drews should have his purse withheld and be arrested for false pretences.

I too would forget about Daman, who needs to fight away from home to gain some stature. There are plenty of capable light-heavies in the USA that could be bought out to Danny some decent ring time.

While it was good to see Green win, It was almost like a farse watching Drews not defend his title - How can a World Champ just run (Hmmm maybe he watched Mundine Vs Manny S) I think the money Drews received was compensated for lack of efford and giving up his title.

I would like to see Green fight Briggs or as mentioned in other posts Clinton Woods. If a fight comes down to making money then u would think he`d fight Briggs then Mundine. As i doubt if a top 10 USA fighter could get Green %30 of what he would earn with a fight here with Briggs and/or Mundine.

Congratulations to Danny Green :TU:

I just read a writeup where Danny said the following: "You can take the interim world champion and shove it up your arse. I am the official world champion" :D :D :D

Well done to Danny. Anyone who can turn their life around like he has deserves great credit.
But I read somewhere else that someone "smells a rat". Drews took the belt from Silvio Branco, who is definitely no mug. In fact he has beaten him twice. Branco has fought some fo the very best from middleweight to light heavy.
Danny was good, but Drews was real bad. Maybe the pressure was real, and Danny's power made him nervous, but he didn't get really hurt. It was no war.
Does anyone else feel uneasy?

Anyway, Green versus Erdei would be winable, and would add another piece of the title to the mantlepiece.

I think that Drews was surprised at Green's speed and strength. Green was able to get inside his guard and hit much harder than Drews.

He deserves a shot at Green but i do think he can win the WBC version therefore setting up a "super" aussie bout.

I really can't see him getting a shot at Dawson...

Both Green and Briggs are pugs when it comes to fighting guys with fast hands.
Dawson beats both of them. Glen Johnson would beat Green dont no about Briggs.

Dawson doesn't have the best chin in the world so Briggs wouldn't be without a chance if they fought...

Id take Green over Johnson, I think Green beats any fighter at 175 or 168 that will stand and trade with him. He wont beat the best boxers in each division but anyone that will trade will be stopped or punished.

Saw Tarver's fight against Santiago. Tarver was not impressive (nor particularly fast) but he put Santiago away in four, which took Erdei eight.

I think he'd beat up an old man like Johnson.
