..and it was the boxers Mum, not his wife

Steve is now doing porridge. Was it a diamond heist Dirk, I forget?

Not sure whether it's true or not, but I heard that 'amateur' performed the same routine/gimmick before every fight. It was his 'thing'. Nothing accidental about it at all. Can't remember his name, though...

I was a big fan of Jamaican Simon Brown growing up - his first war with Tyrone Trice is a real forgotten classic - never seems to get a mention in the 'great fight' polls.

His fight with personal friend Maurice Blocker was also highly charged. A much under rated fighter was Brown..

It wasn't just the confusion wich had effected Steve, it was the fact that a cut had been opened up on his head where he'd been clocked with Mrs Wilson's shoe, so he didn't feel he should have to carry on. The ref waved it off and all hell broke lose, Wilson just about made it back to his dressing room as all sorts of stuff rained down on him and various people tried to 'have a word'.

You must have been brave esp. being from Pompey! Couldn't imagine going to see a McCarthy fight with his family and supporters. Must be a very intimidating atmosphere to say the least!

On Steve McCarthy. How many have seen his fight with Dariusz Michalczewski back in '92? He got DQ'd for essentially being a dirty so and so. Michalczewski's face was a picture, he didn't know what to make of the crazy Brit.

During the 1st round of an amateur bout i had. I puked up a mouthful of sick, managed to hold it in my mouth for the last 30 seconds of the round. Got back to the corner went to spit it in the bucket, and managed to gob it all down the trainer. If looks could kill.

Simon Brown was a class boxer. Was probably No1 welter for quite a while. Nice skills and a big punch. Also took apart Terry Norris in a big upset at light middle. Later on if got fed to Hopkins at middleweight in a mismatch. Brown ended up blowing his cash if earned in the ring , bad investments etc. Think if got himself sorted now, with help from the 'Fist' organization.
