Now after being PROVED right i feel i am qualified to make comments after years of reading diatribe on Ricky Hatton and how "good" he was...usually from posters on British forums.

Hatton's lungingstyle was ok when he was fighting blown up lightweights & old men in his back yard with his hand picked refs that let him get away with fouling ect.

Now i read cry babies on British forums are complaining that Cortez didn't allow Hatton to use his usual wrestling tacktics....BOOHOO.

It was no surpise to me that Hatton got a nasty beating the first time he stepped up and fought a top fighter in his prime with a ref that didn't stand for his B.S.

Hatton is not even the best 140lb fighter in the U.K..never was....Jnr Witter is the man, so Hatton needs to drop this tough guy act...because IMO is nothing but a very lucky domectic level fighter that hit the jackpot.

A check left hook is thrown in time with your opponant moving forward, it's an educated punch and something that can only be perfected in sparring over many hours, if it is what you say then Hatton got made legless by a punch with a silly name.
The crucial term is not check but left hook. It is a left hook. About as much a punch as a bolo punch is. Hatton got put down with a left hook then two more lefts finished him.

'Check' left hook is a term for jive-talking Yanks who blabber on about "old school, new school, never went to school" and want to somehow compare themselves with the classic fighters of yesteryear by using terminology. The best way to do this would be to fight more often, against better guys and dominate divisions.
And gormless people like you are the reason British boxing will always be behind the Americans.

I never liked Lennox Lewis, but it was obvious the only reason he did what he did because he based himself in the USA and learnt the game inside out.

You are about as good at sustaining an argument as you are at holding a coherant thought.

You are a feeble-minded idiot and I think your care worker needs to take away your Internet rights.

I bet you were one of those that thought Hatton would "walk down" Mayweather. :D

Check left hook? It was a left hook FFS perfectly delivered by a guy with exceptional talent. PBF stepped off at an angle, anchored his feet and landed a shot borne out of pure timing and technique. Putting a designation on a single punch that has been probably delivered by other fighters during the history of this sport does not make it new. No doubt the next time a similar punch produces the same payoff the commentators will say ‘that’s the Mayweather check hook’ thus immortalising it – and I for one will not feel it neccesary to begrudge PBF that (but it will raise a wry smile).

As for Hatton just not being very good? Well he was good enough for long enough to get himself in a position to fight the best fighter P4P and came up short – it happens in boxing. Not good enough for PBF? He wasn’t. Just not very good? He is/was. Any other argument to the contrary is just axe grinding agenda making nonsense.

I never said PBF created or named the punch, as i new & he himself said it's an old timers name for the way the hook is executed....a lot of old time boxing termanology has been forgotten...(boy some of you are petty MF'ers)

Same way the old Stepinfetch was said to have told Ali about the "Anchor" punch the knocked out Listen.

And Hatton was NEVER that good.

Then we are agreed then - the punch was a perfectly timed counter left hook - now rediscovered as the check-hook (which you knew about all along). I think you need to grace this forum with more of your undoubted wisdom and knowledge. 8) and stop being so shy about contributing as you did in the past (what was it? a couple of years of reading and not posting?). Jaysus no wonder you are so pent up about hatton and your dislike for him.

As for Hatton was NEVER that good - Never that good for what in the game exactly? The pettiness on this forum is being driven home by you creating variations of the same thread about Hatton being beaten by an exceptional fighter and using it as an opinion that he was only ever 'domestic level'.

You're BS merchant pal.

Tut tut.

Is that the best you can come up with?. I don't need to weep for Hatton - and it has been a long time since I was a fan of anyone or anything. Hatton got well and truly beaten against a great fighter. This is boxing, the game moves on - but I shall carry on supporting British fighters no matter how difficult the task. :TU:

"hatton was never that good" what a load of shit you could put harris, rees, torres and malignaggi in with him and he'd beat shit out of them, he'd beat witter as well although it would be a tough fight and im not a huge fan of hatton either

Fairly new here and don;t know who Lirva is. If he is the same bloke as steppedincatsh1t then I feel for him. This could be one of the worse presented arguments I have seen. I'm racking my brains but I can;t think of another domestic level fighter who was 43-0 and had been fighting at World level for going on 10 years. Oh, maybe steppedindogsh1t was referring to Joe Calzaghe.

This is laughable.

Lirva/Stepinfetchit is an unemployed Irish kid who made anti-hatton posts for 2-3years. He made a bet with another poster before the Hatton-Tyszu fight that Hatton would pull out. He disapeared after but came back posting under another alias, which he recently admitted that he was Lirva after denying it for 2years. After being reminded several times to pay his bets hes come back as Stepinfetchit

Now I've been a Hatton critic for years myself and I'm also a Witter fan and think Witter beats Hatton. So politically should I befriend Lirva? No because he has no honour. Credit where credits due Hatton's done very well and far better than I ever thought he would do and I was certainly proved wrong when he faced Tyszu (as was Lirva/Step)

How is it a pisstake, it's called market economics. If people are prepared to pay to watch him fight, he is rewarded accordingly, get over it.

I think there's more than a touch of envy here. Ricky deserves everything he gets, he is popular and media friendly, and he has given his fans what they wanted.

So what, he lost to Mayweather.
A last comment before i go for tonight, IMO Ricky is a fould mouthed bad joke teller that swears infront of kids at press conferences...his swearing & working mans club posturing has now become a big part of his tough guy act that was demolished last week.
Personally i don't have a problem with boxers acting like 10 men and swearing, it comes with the territory & can be entertaining somtimes, but if your looking for a role model for kids i would pick a well spoken, hard working, honest Jnr Witter above hatton any day of the week.
Is this Junior Witter? Or do you just want to bum the living daylights out of him?!!

OK here is the answer as to the class of Ricky hatton. He went toe to toe with a guy who is an automatic hall of famer and fell short.
He did it with dignity and style and also a certain amount of good humour. He was fighting above his best weight.
All in all a terrific fighter and one who will be considered on the rung just below the all time greats. Not bad is it.

When you come to put people right on a boxing forum you should try to get the little things right like "Liston". I don't think Ali ever boxed a "Listen".
