I have started watching a heap of fights I have on tape and scored them for myself to see how I would have called them. I shall start with an obscure fight.
I watched this fight with the pen and paper, I tried scoring it as fair and
using the ten point must system.
This is how I had it.
Round Patterson Quarry
1 10 9
2 8 10
3 9 10
4 8 10
5 9 10 Close round
6 9 10
7 10 9
8 10 9
9 10 9
10 10 9
11 10 9
12 10 9
The end score I had it 113 even. As a draw.
Clearly from the scoring you can see that Quarry
had the fight early on. I just feel that as the fight
went on Patterson climbed back up and evened the
score. I enjoyed this fight.
How did you Score it - Patterson Vs Quarry II
This fight was shown live on TV and I watch it that time and only that time.
Patterson narrowly won, imo. He did finish strong, as your scoring indicates. I'm not sure if Floyd had any business fighting Quarry in Quarry's backyard.
p.s. Hope you get around to watching Ellis-Patterson, and post your thoughts. That was another one shown live and I recall nearly throwing up when Ellis won.

Well, at another forum I frequent, some of the posters think the Ellis decision was really the right call.Robinson wrote:Yeah I have watched that fight a couple of times actually. I will be scoring the Patterson-Ellis fight next.
I watched that fight and found the circumstances just so....frustrating.

Maybe so, but as a 16 year old boxing nut watching the entire fight back in 1968 I was very angry at that decision. Sickened me for quite a while.
I did have a soft spot for Floyd....he came across as such a gentleman.

Patterson vs. Quarry 1&2, Ellis
I have to give Quarry the nod in the 2nd fight. Those 2 knockdowns decided a close fight. Floyd won the first Quarry fight handily. That draw was a worse decision than the one against Ellis. I noticed you scored no rounds even vs. Ellis, Kym. I might have called 3 or 4 even, & obviously Valan gave them all to Ellis. I have Dundee's book, & he doesn't even mention the Patterson-Ellis fight in it. Little wonder. Floyd must have taken it hard retiring as he did from Sept. 68 to Sept. 70.
I noted those rounds in my lil book as being close. So I re-watched them and I decided not to make them even. I shall re-watch them again.
I think the second fight is more decisive for Quarry as a win, BUT when I scored it thats how I saw it.
Im about to watch and score the first fight shortly.
Its only my opinions though and I am not a trained judge...whatever that means :)
I really like Patterson and he seems like a pretty good guy, genuine and sincere. Its funny but I can't watch one of his fights where he 'loses' without my GF saying..."awwww i just want to hug him and make him feel better"
Im reading Dundee's book "My view from the corner" and its funny what isn't in there.
