If Hatton fights Witter, how many times will...
...McGuigan vs McDonnell be mentioned?
I would say in excess of a trillion.
But seriously, I think it's a valid analogy, is it not? And who wouldn't bet on a Witter win now?
Well, which of you wouldn't??

My sentiments exactly. There is no way that Witter could stand the pace and pressure. Hatton will break his body with punches.Wales wrote:Hatton still batters Witter into submission, no doubt in my mind.
I think people are getting carried away, Hatton just lost to the best fighter on the planet at a higher weight.
Hatton is still the best at 140 until someone proves otherwise. People say he'll never be able to hit Paulie, well Cotto isn't the fastest fighter and he didn't have trouble finding him and landing, didn't he break his jaw?
I really hope Hatton doesn't take the money fight against ODLH but comes and beats the two above and retires as the Undisputed LW champion.

US TV execs have long memories and the memory of Witter stinking out the joint against Judah is one that just won't go away.Max Molyneux wrote:Hatton's pace and pressure can be timed like Floyd showed.
HBO accepted Urango and alot of guys Floyd fought so why not Witter.
Witter will seriously hurt Hatton If Callazo could.
Although calling him "domestic level" is very very harsh.Twinkle Toes wrote:Have to agree with red medicine - Witter is not in Mayweather's league.
Making comparisions just because one is unorthadox and the other can box that way too (only ten times better) is looking at it from the most simplistic of view points.

Excatl, Lynes backed Witter onto the ropes and hurt him to the body - if Lynes did this what will Hatton do to him? I think someone on here that knows Colin said that he didn't rate Witter's power.Red Medicine wrote:Collazo hurt Hatton because he's a welterweight! Last time I checked, Witter was edging 34 years-old and had a KO ratio of roughly 55%. Knocking out Vivian Harris doesn't make you a puncher. For Christ's sake, Colin Lynes almost beat Witter.
I don't even like Hatton, but I find it ridiculous that you're favoring a domestic-level guy like Witter over him. Zab Judah shut him out when Witter was close to his prime years!
I believe Witter will fanny around too much, switch hitting to be effective against Hatton.
I so wish this fight would come off. its causing massive debate now on this forum, can you imagine the debate if it got signed?????

Collazo hurt Hatton because he repeatedly kept hitting him square on the chin. I don't think the extra 7lbs were totally to blame.
Witter is a decent puncher IMO, hes had 21 fights since the Judah fight and has failed to stop 4 of them (Corley in a chess match, Lynes who is on a roll, Kotelnik who's a quality operator and Granite jawed N'Dou). I'm not claiming hes the new Earnie Shavers, but there aren't many bigger punchers at 140 IMO
To call Witter domestic level is just plain fcuking stupid! Hes the WBC champ and #1 in the division (if Hattons classed as a Welter), hes won Lonsdale, Commonwealth and European titles withouit losing any of them in the ring and yet hes a "domestic-level guy" WTF!
Zab Judah beat Witter on points (112-116, 111-118 and 110-118). Witter was making a massive jump up in class and he took the fight on 5 days notice, so how can that be used as some sort of yardstick????
It's not fair and, despite what he's done since, that performance appears to be the Americans' abiding impression of Witter.Chambers2 wrote:Zab Judah beat Witter on points (112-116, 111-118 and 110-118). Then US Tv execs are retarded to leave out a talent like Witter.chesh wrote:US TV execs have long memories and the memory of Witter stinking out the joint against Judah is one that just won't go away.Max Molyneux wrote:Hatton's pace and pressure can be timed like Floyd showed.

Hatton stunk fighting Urango too and HBO have put on worse stinkers than Witter on their PPVs.

With all the talk of Witter not being good to watch its funny that recently i've found Hatton pretty darn awful to watch. Hit and hold- hold and hit - ever since (and including) the Tszyu fight. He goes on about his exciting style and I have to admit his earlier fights were great - I think Hatton hardly ever held - it was usually the opponents holding because they were hurt but now I find him pretty hard to watch at times. But I still think Hatton at his best beats Witter but the big question is "Is Hatton past it?" I'd love to find out because I really rate Witter and despite what people say knocking out Vivian Harris IS good form. The freak Maussa result aside (where apparently Harris came in at a weight drained 134/135lbs
) Harris record was mighty impressive. I do believe, stupid as it may sound now, Cotto relinquished his WBA mandatory spot because he/his people didnt want any part of Harris.
Hatton has fought at a much higher level and not disgraced himself, unlike Witter who did when he fought at that level so many years ago.
I see nothing in either fighter now to expect a good fight to come from it, Witter fights spoilers and gasses early, Hatton is turning Hamed-esque, forgoing his real strengths in favour of the high profile image the boxing press has created.
If it does come off it should be a Hatton win without too much trouble, but I hold out no hopes that it would be a great spectacle once the bell goes (although upo to that point it would be fun).

You were doing so well until you came up with the prime years theory - Junior took the fight at short notice after just three years as a pro. And against a guy ranking in the top 10 P4P at the time...Red Medicine wrote:Collazo hurt Hatton because he's a welterweight! FWIW, I still think Hatton would win, but it would be a lot closer than most people here are trying to make out.
Depends how commited they are to all his fights being PPV - on plain TV it could work - put it on at either the CoM stadium or Elland Road and make money through the gate as well as terrestrial TV here and in the States.jeej wrote:I think HBO could doll the prospect of Hatton VS Witter up a bit. Specially given that Witter is the WBC champ.
Sure it is an all Brit affair, so the Yanks wont be too excited, but I'm sure Hatton has a few fans there now though.
They'd still do well on cable subs and advertising on the back of Hatton's name, and if that were backed with a big live gate - and bear in mind that aside from the usual Hatton army there would be a fair number of people willing to get on the back of a 24/7 type bandwagon for this in the UK, as well as the "War Of The Roses" type support that Witter would get, and I think the numbers would come together alright.jeej wrote:I don't think they could justify showing it on America on 'normal' TV. Where would the money come from?
Another thought would be if the promoters could agree a deal for the winner to fight Malignaggi, which would get the US on side - especially if said overrated powder puff fought on the card, perhaps against the likes of Rees or Castillo.
