The future of British boxing

Hey all,

With Calzaghe and Hatton talking about retiring (calzaghe saying 2 more fights and hattons dad saying 5)
What crop of prospects do we have coming through that can perhaps emulate what they have achieved?

Obviously there are talks of Amir Khan, but who else do you guys think?

i know many dislike him and i know why but if derry matthews knuckles down and trains hard, improves his discipline he could carve out a very good and very watchable career.

For me, Lee (maybe), Mitchell and possibly Murray.

Would like to see the latter given a stiff test like Khan is now.

Eire = The Republic of Ireland

Northen Ireland = Northern Ireland

So you're saying that we shouldn't discuss Eire fighters as this is "British Boxing"? I think others would disagree.

So which bit is where the troubles were? Was it the Isle of Man or is that somewhere totally different?

Also, do you know directions from Derry town centre to Londonderry town centre? My TomTom has got steam coming out of it trying to figure it out.

Have i missed something? I just plain and simply don't rate Mathews and don't enjoy watching him.

what on Earth makes you say that?..........I think a fight with perhaps a Craig Dickson would be extremely revealing myself. Craig's champing at the bit again going off his recent interview on BBN. Even calling out Nuumbembe (although probably Watson now) - and you sense he genuinely means it. Or just a decent, fit, British lad.

British boxing and Irish boxing are in good shape. Plenty of interest of how careers might unfold (that's not sarcastic BTW) and I will support good British/Irish fighters because it is good for the sport on our Isles. Weird how few distinguish between English-Welsh - But I guess a certain type of politics is at play here somewhere.

You have to say Amir Khan at this stage as well - being matched very cleverly - just wonder like I wrote on the other thread about those whiskers.

When will Gavin go professional - will he have to step up in weight to one of the more glamour divisions to get noticed?

Whoever said Murray - no chance unless he makes some fundamental changes.

with regards to Frankie Gavin im aware of his triumph in the amateur world championships but i am completley unaware of what he is capable of, whats his power and chin like, anybody reckon he will have a decent dig as a pro or even be able to take a big blow?
