Hamed Vs Kelley-Already 10 years since they tore up the MSG!

Post by Jaybee From The Castle »

Hard to believe a whole decade has hurtled by since those grand days...

What a bombing match that was! Naz initally troubled by Kelley's lighting fast Borgia-trained hands, then that out-of-the-blue right that decked Kevin, the ensuing nuclear war where they tried to outright decapitate the other, then in the 3rd Kelley inexplicably started loading up on his shots, enabling Naz to duck them all, and in the last minute Hamed rediscovered the power that earned him his titles. And of course, the end was nigh in the 4th.

I have to say, from a purists point of view, the fight was sloppy pugilism on both sides, if either man had kept his cool and boxed, he'd have won.

But WHAT a slugfest!! :)

Yes, 19/12/1997...that date will live on in the hearts of Boxing fans forever.

I have this fight on a sketchy old VHS tape. The picture is awful, the sound is shoddy, & it's still impossible to watch without getting jazzed. What a war!

Jim Lampley called it, "Gunslinger against Gunslinger!" Apt.

Thats crazy. I rememeber reading about this fight as it approached. I watched the full fight maybe a year or two later.

Was for me, the best win for Naz. I really wanted Kelly to win.

Kelley was a long way off his prime, my friend, about 5 years past. That was around '92, during his war with Troy Dorsey.

Excellent fight and great atmosphere! I was sitting near where the Prince made his entrance. Loved the entrance as he stood behind the curtain.

The Featherweight version of Foreman/Lyle. One of those fights you were constantly off your couch.
