well Hatton still won't want to fight Witter but he'll look bad now if he doesn't cos Witter CLEARLY wants it. And the thought of that being in the back of boxing fns' and his own mind for years to come might swing it.
But back to the real world it won't happen. If it does it will be in about 2 years and then only as long as RH feels he can still "cut it".
Witter will however age better than Hatton IMO with his easy style and powerful punch. So basically it's a pipedream.

It's incredibly generous of Mick to offer Hatton the lions share of a purse he won't be in control of. fornicate me, I want to see Hatton-Witter as much as the next man, but it's hardly a generous offer to say: 'Yep, you're much more popular than my guy, so if you let me promote it, you can have more money'. I mean, come on, the quote "If Ricky can continue to bring the same level of profile and support" hardly says much about Hennessey as a promoter, does it? He's basically admitting that Hatton is doing his job for him.
I'd prefer them to stick to the real reason the two should fight: They're two of the best light-welterweights in the world, they've got the whole battle of Britain thing as well, and you, me and every other British boxing fan would love to see it.

Looking at the UK PPV numbers, there is more potential $$$$ in a domestic blockbuster , than a fight with that Italian hair dresser in New York. American PPV would be a joke for that fight now that Hatton has lost and P.M. is not a big star.
Hatton is running scared!!!!
Its one thing to travel to America and lose to the PFP King, but I dont think Ricky could stand losing to a fellow Brit, his ego could not take that.
I think its a load of crap saying he hates Witter and wont give him a pay day, its a load of crap saying Witter is not popular so I wont fight him.
That should not be a factor, the Witter fight would be huge and everyone knows it. Money would be made hand over fist. This is not a popularity contest, step up Hatton. you say your the best at 140 ...prove it.
Because the World knows you cant cut it as a Welterweight.

But that's a ridiculous statement. Hatton-Witter isn't going to be on HBO PPV, and it's unlikely that Hatton-Malignaggi would be either, unless HBO were being greedy and daft in extreme measures. So how do U.S. PPV numbers come into it? Hatton-Mayweather did ridiculous numbers over here because it was Hatton versus the best in the world, and could be hyped as such. It's hardly an indication that Hatton versus Witter is going to pull in the crowds. Hatton is the draw that all other U.K. fighters are measured against, and he hasn't fought another Brit in years. Quite how Hatton-Mayweather doing record PPV numbers in the U.K. makes Hatton-Witter a potentially more lucrative fight than Hatton-Malignaggi is beyond me.Box Office wrote:Looking at the UK PPV numbers, there is more potential $$$$ in a domestic blockbuster , than a fight with that Italian hair dresser in New York. All of this should be irrelevant, but it sadly isn't. I'd rather see more talk of Hatton-Witter actually happening, and screw the numbers. But how likely is that? Not very.

The Hatton vs Mayweather was on SKY Box Office
and it has sold as much as 1.4 million buys , therefore out selling the HBO PPV. The World is bigger than America pal, and of course Hatton vs Witter would be a European PPV and a US Network would potential buy it.
That fight sells out and since its a grudge match would be of interest

Smart move by Hennessey though. Puts the ball firmly in Hatton's court and I don't really think Ricky has anymore excuses. Junior has the most prestigous belt at LW and Ricky just can't perform at 147.
I would prefer to see Hatton fight Rees first though but Old Trafford or City of Manchester Stadium in May would suit me fine.

Smart move by Hennessey?
I wouldn't call it smart, just the same old tattle we have heard before - In fact it is barely news worthy.
The Hatton's don't appear ready to give Witter a big payday just yet, and quite rightly so in my opinion. With Hatton still being in favour with HBO then they are going to have a fair amount of say in what they want him to do next, and I don't believe that is going to involve Witter.

He doesn't have a HBO contract at the moment so don't count your chickens yet.Twinkle Toes wrote:Smart move by Hennessey?

Except the real reason obviously isn't good enough for Hatton, so this as an attempt to make it financially worth his while.states wrote:I'd prefer them to stick to the real reason the two should fight: They're two of the best light-welterweights in the world, they've got the whole battle of Britain thing as well, and you, me and every other British boxing fan would love to see it.

I think Hatton's needs another loss, possibly two, before he would contemplate tackling Witter. By the times he does Witter may no longer be WBC champion.
Previously, Warren and others have suggested the fight can't happen because TV aren't interested. I wonder if Setanta would be prepared to bankroll the fight?

Who else out there though would Hatton be prepared to take on that could beat him? I can only see him fighting Mayweather again or DLH - fights which are unlikely to happen and he would lose. Can't see him with Cotto or any of the big Welters so that only leave Malignaggi or Torres really. I think Hatton would beat Torres easily but Malignaggi would be tough.Ben Carey wrote:I think Hatton's needs another loss, possibly two, before he would contemplate tackling Witter. Both Torres and Malignaggi have a decent chance of beating Hatton IMO John. I can see Hatton going in with someone like Lovemore Ndou next.johnswan1 wrote:Who else out there though would Hatton be prepared to take on that could beat him? I hope you're wrong - Junior Witters left overs - please no! Plus I honestly think it would be a dangerous fight for Hatton as the guy is relentless.Ben Carey wrote:Both Torres and Malignaggi have a decent chance of beating Hatton IMO John. Witter has no real bargaining point when negotiating with Hatton apart from he is champion, but although hatton isnt a champion Hatton is the top dog at the weight and the average consensus see him as the number 1 at 140lbs, plus he brings the crowd and the money, which obviously no one is disputing, but still with all the discussion of this fight happening, i dont feel, personally, we are not any closer to the fight happening than we were 3 or 4 years ago.

We've probably got far further from the fight than we were 3 or 4 years, at least Hatton pretended he was going to fight him thenBoxing.Gloves wrote:Witter has no real bargaining point when negotiating with Hatton apart from he is champion, but although hatton isnt a champion Hatton is the top dog at the weight and the average consensus see him as the number 1 at 140lbs, plus he brings the crowd and the money, which obviously no one is disputing, but still with all the discussion of this fight happening, i dont feel, personally, we are any closer to the fight happening than we were 3 or 4 years ago.

I'm not sure how it works but isn't the point that if another promoter was in control of it, he would be duty bound to give Witter 70%?states wrote:It's incredibly generous of Mick to offer Hatton the lions share of a purse he won't be in control of.
Big Mick is saying that if he was in control of it, Hatton could have the lion's share (which would not be the case if another promoter had it?).
As an aside, Junior once told me that he would fight Hatton for 'winner takes all'. Taken aback, I said 'That's a bit drastic isn't it?' He thought about the reality of it, looked very concerned and then said 'Actually...yeah it is!'

He wouldn't be getting bad odds on his purse money though
