Hi Kev, or whomever - were you able to monitor traffic to the site in the build up to Hatton-Mayweather and are the levels now still above what they were say a month before the fight? Just interested in knowing what sort of impact a fight like that has and whether the interest is a little more than a one off, or if it increases traffic steadily in the long term too. Boxrec, for example had its most users ever online on Sun Dec 09, 2007 5:33 am - 302 users. Would be good to know, although I assume casual fans would mostly be hitting the likes of Sky Sports and BBC.

I'm surprised you didn't do some updates knowing that the traffic would increase like that. It's important to be on top of things during the peak times.

Wow, with the amount of following you two had, why didn't you set up a fan club after the website got flushed down the toilet? You could have sent out Mr Potato Head badges and stickers to all your fans.

Actually the site became very popular considering everyone had full time jobs and was constantly plate spinning. There was an excellent mix of writers. At its peak the site was pulling in 1700 visitors a day which I'm quite proud of.

David's site, if he had more time, would really take off. His articles are very interesting. Anyway, this thread is about BBN who continue to do a cracking job. Well done lads.

Of course, 8, for those who missed the sarcasm was something of a understatement.

It had 35,000 page views this year, which is, essentially fkk all in the scheme of things but I hope to surpass that next year.

You'll not find a message board but you can post on the articles....

But BBN is a great site. Ian is one of my favourite reporters, he's sharp, brave and honest and witty too.

Now you've got me Sammy. The Wordpress stats page has a section which states "Views today" and during the site's purple patch they were regularly 1700 on a daily basis. It doesn't tell me if they were unique but my interpretation is that 1700 ish people read the site on that particular day- could be wrong though because I don't understand computers.

The site really took off around Feb-March time and snowballed upon the advent of the forum which ultimately brought with it some fatal problems. Prior to February the site was pulling in around 500 visitors a day - no great shakes but not bad considering its infancy.

Despite my personal views on Suzanne Nield I'd have to concede that she played a big part in the site's success as well. Her enthusiasm and application was incredible. It's a shame what happened and I was surprised and disappointed by her actions. C'est la vie.

Just a closing point, I don't know what BBN's traffic is like (probably very impressive) but Kevin and the lads have achieved their success without ever having a forum which is very commendable.

We spoken on this Ben. I doubt the page views correlate so neatly to Unique visitors, they dont in my experience.

The forum is a ticket to vanity visits, but to trouble too.

Yeah I know Dave you tried your best to explain it to me in simple terms but I still struggled to get my head around it

Agreed on the forum - it didn't half pull in some traffic though.

Stats are actually quite simple.

If you have visitors x, y and z and a boxing forum.

x visits the forum four times in a day (x = 4)

y visits the forum three times in a day (y = 3)

and z visits the forum two times in a day (z = 2)

You are left with the following simple equation to establish site visitors (v):

x + y + z = v

v = 9

edit:

It is possible to generate unique visitor stats by ip address and/or cookies.

Thanks for all the positive comments re BBN.

I've tried to persuade David to come over to BBN before but the bastard won't.

We do have a lot of good writers on the site who do a hell of a lot of graft in their local areas for no financial reward. It's a cracking little hobby though and almost everybody in boxing likes the site - especially the boxers and trainers themselves as they don't get much press. They tend to treat us better than they do some of the nationals as we are there with them from the start.

We had a record number of unique visitors in November and we're heading for the same in December but things might very well fall off after today. I'd better not release numbers or the boss will sack me. We definitely had a boost for the Hatton fight.

A forum is a minefield really - it's hard enough with jobs and families doing the things we do already without monitoring one of those. Shep on here is a good lad and deals very well with the occasional legal problems this place attracts.

Anyone on here who wants to try their arm at reporting or opinion pieces is always welcome to drop me a line. And if anyone has any inside info they'd like me to 'act on', give me a bell! 8)

It is a shame about Ben's site being messed up but as he knows, it's bloody time consuming and potentially expensive running a site.
