Khan taunts Thaxton
I've never liked Khan as a person but there would be something appealing about seeing how Mr Motivator himself after all the mouthing off could keep himself going for twelve rounds while Amir boxes the ears off him. Khan should take him up on his offer now to fight him for free and see how keen Thaxton is - not very I'd say.

I know this link has been posted already, but its an excellent repost to Khan.sweetscience wrote:http://www.itv.com/Sport/boxing/news/Ar ... axton.html
cant see this being released on the ITV website unless it was being matched next or he has bottled it

Again both sides want the fight, but from experience this seems to mean fcuk all in terms of them actually fighting

thats why i doubt this fight will happenjamesmcdonnell wrote:No way on God's green earth is Warren going to allow Hennessy to promote a fight between Thaxton and Khan. It's just not going to happen, no matter how much Hennessy is offering.
It's a great shame, but the only way this happens is if Thaxton agrees to appear on a SN bill.
both parties wanting to hold it
but in the real world it coulnt be put on a SN card
Good point, would Hennessey step aside if JT's payday was BIG enough ?or if MH recieved some sort of coinage out of it? (its not even worth mentioning the mythical 'joint-promotion' option).jamesmcdonnell wrote:No way on God's green earth is Warren going to allow Hennessy to promote a fight between Thaxton and Khan. Its a very good opportunity for Jon and he may not get many more considering his years, so I hope Mick doesn't insist on promoting it. He may well be within his rights to claim that he should be promoting it with JT being the champ, but for the sake of the fight I hope he doesn't go that route.

Its this Khan press release thats made me more hopeful this fight is going to happen, I'd be surprised if Amir was calling Thaxton out if he'd decided to skip the British belt and move onto the Euro scene, but this is boxing and I rule nothing outjamesmcdonnell wrote:I think it more likely that Khan simply ditches the belts rather than face Thaxton, despite all the big talk from 'Khan.'
If Khan wins the European, then Thaxton and domestic and commonwealth belts will be forgotten about.
I think Thaxton is being overated a tad by some. Sure he has some power - not the one punch Tyson esque dynamo that some seem to be hyping him up. But he has looked particularly impressive in his last two outings, Khan has looked more impressive against a similar level opposition.
Now I know styles makes fights, and Thaxton's superior power might seem that he would be more of a threat to the "weak chinned" Khan than Kristjansen. However, if it was Kristjansen facing Thaxton - I would favour the durable dane to win (and actually fairly comfortably) on points.

not sure anyone said he could hit like Tyson!stujones wrote:I think Thaxton is being overated a tad by some. Thaxton has a decent punch and Khan's chin has been compared to Pele Reid's though...
Okay, so I was exagerating the comments a bit - but Thaxton hasn't scored an inside the first half KO in a while - only got around a 50% KO record anyway.Autobarn wrote:not sure anyone said he could hit like Tyson!stujones wrote:I think Thaxton is being overated a tad by some. His last early stoppage win was against Alan Temple who isn't the most durable.
and what about Khan's power - aswell as superior speed and technique. Thazton was a little hurt by Dave Stewart - Khan is a different ball game to Stewart.
Thaxton looked awesome winning the title, but then again struggled in the 2 title defenses. He's really been swinging for the fences. Kind of wish Warrne would give the British fans the fights that they want. Not keen on these quick routes to titles. It just means that when Khan gets the titles he has to have loads of gimme defenses so that he can grow into his belt.

He did box brilliantly vs Meager - only dissapointing thing I thought was his power. He hit Meager with everything and the kitchen sink but didn't look THAT close to stopping him.Autobarn wrote:Thaxton looked awesome winning the title, but then again struggled in the 2 title defenses. Im not sure all that many thought Earl would beat Khan - A few of us did and my own view was Khan would win if it went the distance - I did however think Earl would stop Khan if he could weather the first few rounds and land some big ones about halfway through - It was obvious Khan would start fast and Earl being a slow starter would have to cope with that - Earl just didnt cover up well enough and got caught - He also underestimated Khan which wasnt a wise thing to do - To be honest I dont think Thaxton is quite so confident now as he was before Earls defeat - Likewise I am not as certain as I was that Thaxton could beat Khan - Stopping Earl was I think a lucky shot because far lesser fighters have lasted a lot longer - We know what Khan can do to opponents if he doesnt get hit, but what we still dont know is can he survive if a real puncher nails him - A non puncher did and he very nearly lost - The chin needs to be tested before we can be sure he is good enough to claim a world title and keep it - We also didnt get the chance to see if his defense has improved in just 72 secs - The jury as far as I am concerned is still out until these issues have been established.observer1 wrote:i don't know... most people were convinced Earl was going to Destroy Khan..
It took 72 seconds for Khan to Win
Thaxton looked impressive in his last two? Has he had a couple that I've missed, because the last two I saw he struggled badly against guys Amir would wipe hte floor with...stujones wrote:I think Thaxton is being overated a tad by some. Well he's 33.This is laughable really, Khan is waiting for Thaxton to grow old before they fight, ....Amir need sto fight Thaxton soon or he'll look a right twit....
Im pretty sure he's got quite some time to go...
Khan has not been round long... He is going to pick Fights Best for HIS career.
At least he is not doing a Calzaghe ands Stay home, and challenging the likes of Hopkins 10 years too late.
At least Khan is asking for the Fight, which is Positive news.

To date Khan has not fought abroad.
He has fought within the confines of England - I think once in Scotland - and has he appeared on a Wales undercard?
No difference to the way Calzaghe was brought through.
