Beer does not dehydrate you particularly. All alchohol is a diuretic, an in fact spirits (without mixers) would dehydrate you the most, as they have the lowest water content.
In fact, you could survive drinking beer and never drinking water, as only a small percentage of the large volume of liquid is alcohol. That's where beer came from in the first place, as a method for sterilising water and making it safe to drink, the alcoholic effects were an afterthought.
Up until about 300 years ago, people drank weak ale instead of water, as it was the only way they could be sure they wouldn't get cholera.
Problem with beer, is that it is full of carbs, so a pint of beer on average has 250 calories or so, up to about 350.
A whole bottle of white wine only has about 600.
A shot of vodka is 70.
