Ok, I accept there are a huge number you could consider, and some people may have a good few single rounds of boxing that spring to mind.
For me...I'll go for: Hagler vs Hearns (Round 1)
There seemed to be as much action & aggression in that single round as I've seen in some entire fights! It was truely explosive and neither fighter took a backward step.

Hagler-Hearns Round 1 no question. The build up to the fight and then that the very first round delivered this made it so special.
Other notable mentions:
Bowe-Holyfield 1 - Round 10. Evander lurching around the ring out on his feet like a scene from a Rocky film only to come back and have Bowe looking shaky at the rounds end with a furious response. Breathtaking.
De La Hoya - Quartey - Round 12 - A bot one-sided but Oscar came storming out being told he needed a stoppage and floored the Ghanain, then trapped him in a corner and unloaded, Quartey couldn't go down or defend so he just started throwing leather back and for a few seconds it was beautiful as both warriors just went for it.

Stu, good call, also one of my favourites, more for about 20 seconds of action than the entire round but still a critical point in a big upset. Leonard backed into the corner had up to that point been going backwards for the majority of the fight. Hagler finally caught up with him and started whinging in all kinds of shots and Suagr Ray met fire with fire making the Marvellous one back off and actually punching his way out of the corner which had not seemed possible.stujones wrote:Leonard vs Hagler Round 9.

Hamed - Kelley - round 1 - if ever there was an "oh sh!t" moment it was Hamed's first touch down - I'd expected an easy blow-out of Kelley.
Ben-McClellan - round 1 - Exactly as I'd expected Benn was hammered in the first. Hold on a moment.............. he's up..............best fight ever viewed in a pub - i never heard a word of the commentary - didn't care.
ODLH-Vargas - round 11 - Just nice to see a grudge match settled so conclusively - hate Vargas anyway and how nice to find out later that even his Roids couldn't help.
Bruno-McCall - round 12 - can he do it? yes he can

Followed by Land of Hope and Glory - what a finale!

Round three of Roberto Duran's rematch with Esteban De Jesus in Panama City in 1974. De Jesus, the only man to have beaten Duran two years earlier, came out and gave it everything he had early on. He floored Duran in the first and seemed to be the quicker, sharper man. But in the third, Duran stood his ground and met fire with fire. It was unbelievable. Duran just refused to be dominated and by the end of the round DeJesus was backing up and holding. The fight was as good as over. DeJesus survived till the 11th, but only because he ran and held. Duran patiently wore him down and took him out with body shots.
Round 1 of Holyfield-Tyson 1 was good too perhaps not quite on the up and down scale of others mentioned but intriguing nonetheless as Holyfield made it clear he would not be bullied and pushed around by Tyson.
Round 2 I think it was of Trinidad-Vargas when Vargas got himself back into the fight was also good.
Round 12 of Judah-Witter was also exciting. As the finishing post came into view Junior we wondered would he go for broke and have a go? No, even more exciting than that he broke the landspeed record for running backwards even faster than he had for the previous 11.

On a slightly different tack -
for one of the most impressive single rounds of boxing (and I can't remember which) what about Naseem Hamed - Jose Badillo.
He landed every punch, broke the guy up (danced around a little) then stopped him - badillo was a reasonable prospect, undefeated and Mexican - but Hamed COMPLETELY outclassed him.
