Jack Johnson vrs Bob Lawson(1926)

Post by Brutu »

In Juarez Mexico.
This is listed as a KO loss for Jack Johnson when he could not rise for the beginning of the 8th round.
But is it listed elswhere as a No decision by a foul?
(in In the Ring and Out I believe at the end.
A newspaper accounts that Johnson went to a doctor for an abdominal swelling after the fight and a doctor delclared it was the result of a blow several inches below the belt.
I just wondered if Johnson succesfully got the original desion changed later?

Here is what is listed in the appendix of Johnson's autobiography IN THe RING AND OUT,where he lists his ring record.

1926-May.30, Fouled by Bob Lawson,Juarez;Mex;8 rounds.

Also there are a couple of newspaper articles that say Jack Johnson went to Chicago to have a specialist look at an abdomimal swelling he recieved caused by a low blow from Bob Lawson(the Negro light-heavyweight champion). Also he had several eyewitness that reported Lawson hit Johnson low several times before he(Johnson) went to the canvas right when the bell rang to end the seventh round and could not get up to continue.
