On Amir Khan

'I fought a world prospect in my first year and beat him in seven rounds when I'd never really been beyond one or two rounds in my life. I don't know if Amir's close to fighting a British prospect yet and he's been in it for three years. So it's still not possible to say mate, but I wish him all the best and you'll just have to wait and see.

'After three years I was fighting (Iran) Barkley of all people, he was so ugly tears wouldn't run down his face and he'd sparked Tommy Hearns and had the pound-for-pound fighter running away all night. I went into his backyard and sparked him in a round. So there you go mate.'

On pay-per-view

'Listen, mate, I'm telling you. If the Watson and McClellan and the Barkley and Eubank fights were all on pay-per-view, I'd have made 100 million quid!'

On drawing power

'Me and Mike Tyson are the biggest draws in boxing since 1987. Why? Because you knew what you got with us - X-rated violence. Win, lose or draw, you were getting X-rated violence.'

On being No.1.

'When I won my super middleweight title - with Italian fan's spit all over me and my opponent's blood all over me - I called for Barkley and I called for Eubank and they didn't want to know. And there was Michael Nunn, and he ends up losing on my undercard. Then they unleash the mini-Mike Tyson on me. The guy nobody wanted to fight, the guy who had everyone running scared. They unleashed him on me.

'Listen, mate, I worked my backside off all my life to be world champion and I always dreamed of defending it in England when Eubank came along and buggered it up for me. This was five years on. And I'd already been Gerald McClellan! Before the Watson fight, I was Gerald McClellan! I'd seen all sides of each coin and there was only going to be one winner that night, mate. And you know what? I'm glad I kept the title in England and defended it at Wembley Stadium and all that.

'In the army, if your No.2., you're treated just like No.200. You're treated like crap on the floor. For a schoolyard bully, it's demoralising. I had to be No.1. in the army, and doing that for five years it made me want to be No.1. in boxing, and I was No.1. in boxing! Nobody came up faster, nobody came back from a loss like that to win a world title the next year, everyone said Nunn was the best but he ran away from Barkley for 12 rounds and I sparked him in one, and we all know the WBA belt is No.2. and Bob Arum is No.2.

'Let me tell you a little story. My big brother, Andy, was the hardest kid around. He was well hard. He was street. He was king of the tough guys in Ilford. I loved him far more than I've ever loved anyone, bar Jesus Christ. When he died, all I ever wanted to be was king of the tough guys to do Andy proud. The Gerald McClellan fight was just the cherry on the top.'

Nigel suddenly dropping all modesty..?

He was my favourite british fighter ever and the most exciting british fighter i've ever seen, and i'm sure i talk for everyone else when i say that.. but i honestly think this Christian stuff is bullshit and that this 'farewell' wont last.. listen to the way he's speaking still, hardly sounds like a vicar.. and he said that little meet-up with Eubank back at old trafford in Jun would be his last ever speaking thing but he's apparently done about 20 since..!

He's been saying this for yrs that he'll be staying away from TV and dinners etc but he keeps coming back :o

You can tell he's always rated himself as the greatest British fighter ever but tries not to let it known, he's certainly fought the best of any Brit --Mcclellan, Eubankx2, Watson, De Witt, Simms, Barkley, Collinsx2 and used the ring to vent anger

On Im a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here --Nigel came across as a horrible, horrible bastard

All he did in that jungle was shout how they were just a bunch of 'D-cast' celebrities and hown he'd knock them spark out if they were in the street, or if that Rhona was a man how he'd knock her spark out etc-- I think he tries to be a nice bloke, but really he has so much anger inside him

Nigel's a legend. Not many bang like him, he fought like a maniac. Awsome power and fury. Has to be one of my all time favourites. His autobiography is excelent and offers a great insight into how he became the fighter that he is - a violent product of his expereinces and traumas. His guilt has been visable for all to see over the years, and like all, he returns to his mistakes from time to time. Religeon has certainly given him some peace, which is great. Its irrelevant whether or not other boxing fans have a faith or not. Benn does and it works for him in finding solice. Yes he will continue to contradict himself at time, continue to makes mistakes and continue to change his mind. In terms of the latter, the notion of violence is at odds with both his religeon and his attempt to put the more negative aspects of his life to bed - death of his brother, the damage he caused toothers in and out of the ring... Unfortunately, violence was a major part of his life from childhood, thus it is well set into his mindset. Ultimately, it seems he still has a connection with the sport. all

A very complex man - In interviews he is honest as he can be while protecting his true inner feelings - Religion and violence dont mix and Nigel obviously feels he has to leave boxing and his violent life behind him in order to move on - I think he feels any association with boxing is holding him back from his pursuit of a more spiritual life and having been a boxing legend that isnt easy for him - Selling his belts, wanting to stop interviews with the media is his way of dealing with it - Getting things off his chest and saying that was my life is another attempt at putting his past behind him - Fair play to the man if religion gives him happiness and peace of mind - Cat Stevens was born into a very wealthy family and then went onto making millions himself before giving it all up for his beliefs.

Alex Arthur and the rest of the god squad may not agree, as long as they are making good money, religion and Boxing can happily co-exist.

It's close.

Hatton has Tszyu, Castillo and Mayweather. Lennox has Holyfield and Tyson. But none of those were near their best, apart from Mayweather. Calzaghe has Kessler. Hamed has Barrera.

But yeah I'll go along with Benn - Barkley, Watson, Eubank (beat him in rematch), McClellan. And he caused the most upsets (both world title wins, Eubank rematch (which he won) and McClellan).

That's of the last 25 years.

Buchanan and Watt would be up there too otherwise, maybe above.

YEah but Christianity is a religion based on Jesus' teaching's of love and forgiveness, Islam is based on Mohammed's techings and 'revelations' that preach conquest, convesrion and punishment if you don't toe the line.

Essential dfifference.

Didn't Danny WIlliams also say he would never fight a muslim?

That's prejudice of a strong nature.

PS I am an atheist. JUst looking at religions from an intellectual and theological nature.
