McCoys take on the Murphy/Farnell clash

McCoy thinks that this is a difficult 1st WBUseless defence for Sir Lawrence of Uddingston

Despite his great win against Wayne Elcock, there is still a lot of unanswered questions about him that no-one can quite answer yet

After all, before his win against Elcock, he was said to be struggling somewhat against modest fighters in 4 & 6 rounders

However, McCoy dont believe that Murphy's KO of Elcock was a lucky punch, he stood in front of the guy, landed two clean punches & won the fight, calling it a lucky punch is disrespectful

But as McCoy said earlier on, there are still unanswered questions, mainly about his stamina in a 12 rounder

Farnell as we know has great stamina, & will pressure Murphy from the first bell & will have probably attempted to Psyche Lawrence out before the fight, & as always Farnell will be fit as a fiddle even at middle for the bout, & its last chance saloon for Arnie so he will be well up for it

If Murphy doesnt land that big punch of his early, there could be a new WBUseless champion on the night

Good call McCoy, its hard to assess Murphy just on one punch. I not saying his win over Elcock was a fluke..... However, like you said there is no way we can assess his stamina, or even his actual ability.

Also, some writers raised a question of Elcock's punch resistance before his good win over Farnell.

This is a dangerous first defence, Farnell, for all his critics is a solid domestic fighter at either Light Middle or Middle - we don't know anything about Murphy. Similar questions would also be raised if Murphy took on another proven fighter, such as Groenwald

Whats the odds the Elcock will reclaim this title before the end of the year - cause I just think he has the style to beat Farnell 10 times out of 10, I'm not sure if the same applies to Murphy - simply because I've only seen him in a round.

All I do hope is Farnell doesn't do a similar speech to when he beat Groenwald - I'm sure Stallone must have copywrighted the script to Rocky II.

Farnell should be ashamed of himself for that speech. you'd think he won the undisputed heavyweight title or something. Then a few weeks later Sky showed a segment about how much time he spends with the belt. he even wore it in the freaking shower. THE WBU BELT!!!

But anyway, I hope Farnell wins. He may be poor, but I thik he's funny.

Murphy can punch though. We know that. And Farnell has been done in 1 before...

McCoy is bang on. I didn't think it was a lucky punch against Elcock. It came at the end of a combination, so in that case it was a lucky combination.
And, yes, there are a lot of questions still to be answered by Murphy, mainly how he will cope once a fight goes into the later stages. It says a lot for the modern game that the Scot can call himself a world champion of sorts when he hasn't even been beyond six rounds as a pro. I also noticed today he was sparked in one round as an amateur by Markus Beyer. I don't think he's the next coming of Ken Buchanan. But I would like to be wrong.

Very true Bennie, good point

& to think that the old school fighters would go to hell & back & in some cases even throw fights to get a shot at the title in their day

I reckon this is close to impossible to call!

What we know about Farnell is that he is fit, strong, reasonably experienced with a reasonable chin (although he can be stopped with essentially one punch!)

Murphy on the other hand - nothing known about fitness, strength, chin and with at least one 1punch KO on his record, but no prior rep as a real puncher!?

Experience could be the difference but no result would surprise me!

Too many intangibles to pick an outcome with any certainty.

What will Murphy be like when/if the bell goes for Round 7?

Farnell has shown good durability but has also shown he can be blown away in a round.

What is Murphy's chin like?

Will it be raining?

Murphy's chin is pretty decent.
he fought Chris nembhard who can really wallop and sparred a lot with erik teymour before the Elcock fight and he looked pretty solid.

however after 10-11 rounds will he start sagging??? its a possibilty.

Farnell cannot take him out with one shot, but might wear him down..

I fancy Murphy hits hard enough to drop and hurt Farnell though

you know Beyer is like 5 years older than Murphy. It was probably man against boy!!! Beyer was a pretty tasty amateur too so I dont think this result means much. Very interesting to know of course!!!

Farnell wins this one for me, he will be wary of Murphy's "Power" which seemed to surface in one fight and keep it long but his experience and stamina will win through. As he steadily applies more pressure Murphy will start to feel the pace and Farnell will win a decision IMO, Murphy should never have been in the ring with Elcock in the first fight anyway, he has had a sporadic career and done little to warrant a title shot, not only that but it was dangerous too. A guy who has only ever gone 6 would find it hard to adjust suddenly to a 12 round world title bout and had the fight continued he would have been straining more and more. His health would have been at risk and he could of ended up a victim of his own bravery, it could still happen against Farnell.

Farnell on the other hand just keeps on coming, despite technical limitations and inability to slip a straight jab it shows that if you have the right promoter and you can shift a few tickets then you can still keep returning

Interesting point, Murphy seems like a real banger, most of us are assuming Farnell will take him a few rounds... But Farnell has been hurt a few times at Middle, by lesser punchers.
