Touting is illegal in the football industry and was made so to fight hooliganism. Touting will be illegal for events at the 2012 Games based on terrorism threats.

Touting is legal for everything else. Supply and demand dictate prices- if mugs want to pay hundreds of pounds over the face value- that's their choice.

I haven't read Hauser's article. It is hardly a revelation that people look out for themselves in boxing. It is one of the most, if not the most, selfish sport in the world.

From a perspective of a normal boxing fan that does not claim to have "insider knowledge" ect ect, i must say the first thing that came to mind reading this and the fact SPUDLEY is taking the moral high ground made me think WOULD SPUDLEY BE NOW TAKING THE STANCE OF A MEARE BOXING FAN THAT IS QUESTIONING TEAM HATTONS MORALS ABOUT MAKING EXTRA MONEY FROM HIS FANS IF FIGHT ACADEMY PROMOTED AND PROFITED FROM THE MAYWEATHER BOUT????


Regarding the scalping/ touting/ brokering that is being addressed by the author of this thread.....this should be no shock, especially to the moronic Hatton fans that fuelled this whole episode.

I read on every boxing board Hatton fanatics booking air & hotel tickets before the fight tickets even went on sale, then comming and crying that when the tickets did go on sale, even though they pressed dial the minute they did they could not get through to purchase, then they got directed to sites where they could get a flight, hotel, boxing ticket package deal like magic.

Then it was announced that they would be showing the fight via closed circuit in bars ect around vegas.....and the dumb fookers still went over their to watch this missmatch on a big screen.

I have heard of people from here going over to vegas and buying fake tickets from touts, getting ripped off then going and spending thousands of Dollars more on another ticket.

Basically the Hatton bum boys voted with their feet to be taken up the a$$....and they loved it.

Have to say I agree. I think this reflects poorly on team Hatton, as the ticket scalping amounts to a con job, where the ticket prices are basically false, given that they are in the main being sold on to middle men.

Lest we forget, it's the fans who make up a sizeable amount of the money which enables purses to be paid, even in the TV age.

I think they can't resist making a monkey out of the fans. I feel ripped off enough from paying for the Maussa, Collazo and Urango fights on PPV. The travelling fans seeminly are being exploited for their loyalty. Vs Urango, it was like we were just paying for Ricky's presence along, like he didn't even have to "fight" to justify ppl shelling out. Billy Graham told us we all should be "grateful," even though he has nowt to do with tickets.

Ultimately, I think Hatton has severe limitations especially in the $ division 147-lbs, is a few years past his best, and feels the urgency to squeeze all the money he can out of every bout. All this talk last year of early retirement, 2 or 3 more fights, the suspicion (after Urango) that he's maybe damaged goods. When he goes into another PPV fight, like Cotto perhaps, it will all be over and he won't be able to do it anymore.

I bought a $1000 ticket at face value (indirectly) from the ballot. That cost £640. $1000 at a 2.0 exchange rate (which was the exchange rate when I got the ticket) obviously equates to £500. However, should the exchange rate have fallen to 1.60 then the ticket value would have been $1024. Perhaps the 30% mark up was advised to them incase of interest rate drop? Especially considering the exchange rate is currently at its highest.

Or perhaps they wanted to make up a little more cash, after all he's risking his life getting in the ring.

Was my ticket overpriced, well, even at face Value - YES. Was I happy to pay that money to be in the arena? Hell YES, what an experience.

You've accidentally stumbled on the key point people are missing. You stated "ive bought tickets for concerts and fights and sold them for more than they are worth". You haven't. They are worth what people will pay for them. if that happens to be more than the face value of said item sobeit.

In this instance, there appears to be a strong likelihood that some form of tax avoidance (rather than evasion) has been entered into by the various parties, but that is another matter.

I got my tickets in the same way as Wales.
I knew that £640 did not equal $1000 but I don't consider myself ripped off at all.
Due to a family issue suffered by my friend I ended up with two spare and put a thread up here.
The abuse I got made me ask for the moderators to take the thread down.
They went to a good home and the purchaser didn't feel ripped off one bit.
For major fights this practice has always existed - it's simply being highlighted by Hauser - his motivation ? Not sure.
Does anyone really give a f**k if the mark up has ended up in team Hatton rather than the tout's pocket ? I don't.

Forget ticketmater, use Stargreen! They charge a little more than face value but once you add up fees & postage they work out cheaper. Most events will cost you at least 10-15% above face value, sometimes you are better off going to the venue and buying one on the street. No booking fee there.

Hatton is not a 'man of the people', he's a businessman otherwise he'd be out in the street giving away fight tickets and christmas turkey's. The sports and music event ticket industry is in a right mess.

but incidentally, i have 2 tickets in front of me for dolly parton at the nottingham arena (they are my daughters not mine ... ) 2 tickets with face value of 65 quid each, total paid including booking fee and postage etc is 144.50

now that is not 20% .... not with anyones maths !!!!
