You've just destroyed any credibility you might have had left (admittedly not much). I defy you to find anyone that supports this warped memory of the fight. Stretch was never a popular fighter. In fact you can argue that it was his 'pretty boy' looks that cost him any popularity and also obscured the fact that he was actually quite prepared to get down in the trenches...StepinFetchit wrote:No, Eubank was the villain, i remember the hype surrounding that BUM/Gay Model Gary Stretch.....if Stretch would have beat Eubank he would have got knighted.Deserter wrote:Benn and Eubank were popular independently of one another, not just purely in the context of fighting each other. You are the sh!t talker, how come before PBF beat Hatton he was getting all kinds of critisism from the media and internet users even though he had already won numerous titles at numerous weight divisions & already beaton better opponants that Hatton?...now all those c0c sucker have been forced to crawl back under a rock.
If Hatton would have beat PBF he would have been hailed as the second comming of Christ.
The media and all British boxing promoters are WHITE so they are always going to have a bias towards a white fighter and be looking for "The great white hope" of each weight division.
Bruno was media friendly, Benn & Eubank were both black against each other so that was acceptable.
The Hatton & Witter thing is on OBVIOUS rasist issue, u fags can gloss over it anyway u want, but to me and any none conformist none white person it is that way, i know because i live in that World so don't tell me what is and isn't so BOY.

in my book - Hatton is a limited slugger ( but strangely a good fighter - but only against b class opposition) his legacy is of an over protected fighter who lost to the ONLY elite fighter he fought that was in his prime.
I think he is a fraud and a cliche'd fcuker.

For the most part people watched Eubank to hopfully see him get beat, i remember when Collins finally beat him it made the lead story on the 12o'clock news that night, and the story was all about Eubank getting BEAT not Collins winning.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Villain or not, people turned out in droves to watch Eubank.StepinFetchit wrote:No, Eubank was the villain, i remember the hype surrounding that BUM/Gay Model Gary Stretch.....if Stretch would have beat Eubank he would have got knighted.Deserter wrote: Benn and Eubank were popular independently of one another, not just purely in the context of fighting each other. Stretch was never popular except with the ladies.
Lou Gent was a complete nonentity.
Again, you talk shite to try and prop up your piss-weak arguments.
The point here is WTF does Jnr Witter have to do to get a fight with his no1 professional rival???...u f^gs want him to bend over and pleed with the sh!tboy?

Witter made bungled attempts to wind up Hatton in the past and get the fight and it backfired badly, now he can't get the fight and is, as usual, trying to whine his way back into contention. He may well be able to beat Hatton and it may be a fight that a lot of people want to see but Hatton is in complete control of this one and it seems as though he would rather retire than give Witter a monster pay day. The more Junior whinges and tries to make up reasons for the fight not happening, the more Team Hatton will sit back and laugh at him.
Witter should forget about it and get on with his own career. Would Hatton be so popular if he was black? Is Joe Calzaghe any more popular among boxing fans than Nigel Benn or Lennox Lewis?
IMO articles like this will do him no favours.

PBF called Hatton a BUM, clubfighter, Vicky Fatton ect,ect...guess what, Hatton fought him.
So is it all about the risk/reward=money for Hatton.....yes it is.

Witter needs to get the press on his side, the reason i highlighted the article to start with, was nothing to do with a supposed race theme. It was the fact that Witter isn't being promoted properly. He's always in shape so he could do at least 3 fights a year.
But it seems his promoters are not going to get him this.
I really can't understand it, from a fans point of view.
When does everyone think Witter will be in the ring next?
If its any later than March , then he's been poorly treated yet again

I used to have contact with Witter on a fairly regular basis and the last thing he wanted to talk about was Ricky Hatton - he grew tired of the same old questions. Deep down I think he accepted that the fight is never going to happen and merely wanted to get on with his own career. Journalists, like the Times geezer quoted today, simply wouldn't let it lie and I think Junior, rather reluctantly, obliges them occasionally. Does anyone think Witter rang the Times to vent his frustration at Hatton? I don't think so.
As for Witter repeatedly "attacking" Hatton, well, the majority of that is PR bluster. Begrudgingly Witter respects Hatton's achievements, desperately wants to fight him but is resound to the fact it isn't going to happen. Witter's a quiet, unassuming bloike and a dedicated professional. He tried to goad Hatton into a fight a long time ago and it didn't happen. Anyone who thinks Witter is constantly moaning about this doesn't know the guy's personality.

I actually think now is the time for Witter to be MORE vocal and goad Hatton into a fight by any means neccasary, if this was a USA rivalry the media would demand it.
IMO Witter should be on the front of every boxing site and media outlet holding up a fat chicken wrapped in sky blue foil by it's neck.

I have spoken to Witter myself, and he comes across as a very quiet unassuming man.
Brendan Ingle is the one who I feel who has led Witter down the path of banging on about Hatton. Few of the words that supposedly came from Witter's mouth were actually penned by him.
I think Witter's management actually did him a bit of a disservice going down that route. It portrayed Witter to the public as a bitter and rancarous individual who was jealous of Hatton's limelight, which is hardly ideal in building public good will and a sizeable following.
I hope now that Witter gets a shot at Hatton, he's done things the hard way without the support of a big promotional push, but he's a genuine and worthy challenger to Hatton.
James, a potentially touchy subject brewing here. Just being devils advocate, do you think that Eubank Bruno and Benn being from London (or close to it) helped their popularity. In other words, is it easier for a non white from London to be viewed as "one of the lads" than elsewhere in the country?jamesmcdonnell wrote:What a pathetic attempt at riling us.StepinFetchit wrote:It does have something to do with his colour, only a white idiot would say otherwise and pretent boxing especially the British game does still not have racism....IMO Hatton has been proved to be so aswell by his accosiation with Bernard Manning, his charator assasination of PBF and his treatment of Jnr Witter.Deserter wrote: I don't dispute that, but what I object to is Witter's incorrect infererence that he is therefore suffering because of his colour, rather than accepting that it's largely down to his style. Hatton should definitely face him though and Ricky is losing face by not doing so.
Black people in genaral have to try twice as hard in anything to get their dues, take PBF for example...then we have the likes of a limited BUM club fighter like Hatton that hand picked everyone of his opponants yet gets praised by the f^ggot media, built up & still congratulated after putting up a PATHETIC performance against Mayweather.
Frank Bruno, Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, three of the msot popular and highest earning fighters in British Boxing. Are they all white then?
Mayweather has earned a fortune from boxing, despite not even having much of a following, and banging on about 'slave wages.' How exactly has he had it hard?
The media were nothing to do with Hatton's success, he was packing them in at the M.E.N arena long before the mainstream media even knew who he was over here.
As usual, you are talking shite.
Witter is a fantastic fighter and should be a superstar. He has skill on par with Calzaghe but lacks the consistency of performance. He needs some marketing, fighting on Setanta would help.
If he was from London or say Birmingham he may have had a bigger following.
I feel for Witter, this is the fight he's wanted for ages but Ricky's always avoided him.I don't think there's really a better fight left for Ricky now at Light-Welter weight but he'll most likely carry on avoiding it, most likely as he knows he'd big problems with Junior's style and could very well lose.
It's one thing losing to the one of the best fighters in the world in PBF but to lose to Witter would really shatter Hatton's pride more than anything.

Now i dont' have a favourite out of Hatton or Witter, but you can't have Witter calling Hatton a chicken, he's just boxed the P4P fighter on the planet, there's nothing chicken about that. So maybe you can rethink Witters promotion on it.DG. wrote:I think you have a point!StepinFetchit wrote:I actually think now is the time for Witter to be MORE vocal and goad Hatton into a fight by any means neccasary, if this was a USA rivalry the media would demand it.

I think Witter should do his talking in the Ring, put on some more good displays like he did against Harris, he looked superb that night.
And i had picked Harris to beat him.
I think he was using it as an example as he mentioned Irish and Pakistanis as well. All three communities have suffered discrimination in the UK in the past. Is it relevant to Hatton avoiding him? I very mucg doubt it, but if it gets him the fight and a life changing payday good luck to him, with skills like that you should be making money.banjo wrote:disgusted with juniors comments on being black. he seems to be yet another with a chip on his shoulder.
I just think he needs more exposure. Should he should give Mr Warren a call to see if he can get him on Setanta against Rees?

i really hope witter gets big money fight before the end of his career, he deserves one. If only he could have built on the hop/eastman undercard exposure...he may have drummed up some interest for a unification with malignaggi, although stylewise that may have been the worst fight out there for him.
imagine if there was a hugely popular american prospect moving up the ranks at 140 and became WBC #1? they'd ship witter over and he'd likely get a big pay day, unfortunately there's nothing on the horizon at 140.
who is witter mandatory anyway?

Agree entirely - I am warming to Witter though because he seems to be far less arrogant than he was - He even wished Hatton well before the Hatton/Mayweather bout - For reasons I have given in other posts I too believe Hatton must fight Witter next and not somewhere down the line.Deserter wrote:I don't dispute that, but what I object to is Witter's incorrect infererence that he is therefore suffering because of his colour, rather than accepting that it's largely down to his style.
