Witter interview in The Times
good post ben. i cant understand stepinfetchits fury. he is a much better poster when he's not ranting away about hatton. in fact he can be coherant and credible. and then resorts to absolute shiitte so that james has to knock him down a peg (with a nice subtle kick in the groin from terry d for good measure) stepin please keep it rational. i was considering barring myself from answering any of your posts after the crap you wrote earlier (but you redeemed it
)

I think he was putting the point across that sometimes there is no issue to address so one has to be made. Billy may well feel agrieved if he has witnessed these goings on and who could blame him.

The sad reality is that Hatton's lawyer nailed it with his "2 men and a dog at Doncaster Dome" comment. Witter can't' sell a ticket or convince Joe Public to watch him on TV. Mick Hennessy must have lost a fortune promoting him.Deserter wrote:I rate Junior, but disappointed here to see him play the race card - his lack of opportunities has been almost solely down to his early career and particularly his pitiful showing against Judah, not his colour.
I think he should call Hatton's bluff and come out and say, "Ok Ricky, you take 100% of the gate and any TV revenue, pay me a flat fee of X amount. That way I don't get a big huge payday and you get a huge payday and a chance to shut me up. No do you fancy it?"
If Hatton turned a deal like that down then at least it would reflect badly on Hatton rather than looking like another whinge from Witter.

Billy, you can't include the residents of the Falklands as a credible example of your understanding of cultural and ethnic diversity. Additionally, don't be bitter about getting passed over in favour of members of minority groups; it was probably because your CRs were rubbish and their's weren't.
You are correct about Crimewatch but it is not proof that minority groups are inherent criminals; far from it. You must take current economic circumstances and background into consideration.
People from poor economic backgrounds are more likely to commit crimes such as robbery and theft. The fact many members of ethnic minority groups are relative newcomers to these shores and in most cases arrived with little or no money unsurprisingly leaves a sizeable percentage of these people close to the bottom of the economic pecking order. I caveat that there are always exceptions.
It takes some time for immigrants to get economically established; but as the Asian families who arrived in the 1960s have shown, it is very doable over time. Ambition, work ethic and family unity have made some very wealthy families and helped our economy no end.

come on man!! how can you come with that weak point about crimewatch, and draw percentages off of that. im not going to turn this into a race thread because i don't believe it needs to go there and everyones perception on race relations are different. but what i do know is that there is racism, blatant racism, institutionalised racism and subconscious racism. and any way/how you look at it white people are at the top of the social ladder. It's the way it is and until everyone is seen as equal and has equal chances, there will always be claims of racism even if YOU feel it is not there. I guarentee the person making the claim in most cases would have felt something.billy bessey wrote:you say i need to open my eyes to the world would that be the same world that i have served in the falkland isles bosnia kosovo germany and iraq? if so i would say i am pretty aware of whats going on in the world although im not a well educated man i have met people from all walks of life and all this political correctness/racial abuse nowadays in MOST cases is blown out of all proportions and its always the ethnic minoritys that get abused who are the ones that get talked/publicised about what about the white man that gets abused what about when the tables get turned and the white man gets refused entry to a club or gets beat up for being white or when he doesnt get promoted cos his white i will no doubt get slated for this but next time you watch crimewatch my friend check out the percentage of crimes committed by ethnics compared to white englishmen like i say im not a well educated man i just say things how i see them so im not getting into a slanging match here all im just saying a every coin has 2 sidesjimmy the gent wrote:you write a lot of nonsence, mate. why should he do that. this same weak argument that witter doesn't sell tickets is becoming very boring. In most fights you are going to have a man that can sell tickets and a man that can't but this fight sells itself. Put ricky in with say a mike stewart for example and ricky sells 20,000 at the men . Put junior in with the same fighter he sells maybe 500 if that but you pur ricky in with junior it sells 60,000 or so. We all know this so that must mean that junior brings sometghing to the table and that is that he is a genuine world class fighter at the top of his game and he is British. so although ricky has had the more illustrious career and made all the money and sold all the tickets, people in this country are still asking questions as to who really is the best light welter we have, and that is what this argument really is all about. Boxing. we the fans needs to know who is the best.fatton wrote:The sad reality is that Hatton's lawyer nailed it with his "2 men and a dog at Doncaster Dome" comment. we found out with naz vs robinson and ingle
eubank vs benn vs watson
now haye vs mac.
ricky should have followed this example a long time ago but as ive said before he's one of these rare boxers who come along and because of his popularity, will be forgiven for a lot more.
Great post Sammy. As much as I raised the original issue regarding Junior, I don't want to see the thread getting hijacked into a 'free-for-all' regarding race.Sammy Mendelson wrote:Billy, you can't include the residents of the Falklands as a credible example of your understanding of cultural and ethnic diversity. Racial discrimination is still a genuine problem, I merely felt that Junior was inaccurate in attributing his lack of breaks to this, rather than his persona and early career performances.

I saw Witter in a rather odd matchup about 10 years ago, at the Nynex. They had brought over a South African called Bergman, on a very good record of 35 wins and 1 loss, who went on to fight for WBC , IBF WBU and IBO world titles. They were really hyping Bergman in the programme, too.
Cut a long story short, he fought Witter, who had had less than 10 fights, on the first fight of the night, so the arena was almost deserted.
Witter won but it was a strangley low key victory, as is the case in front of empty venues- almost surreal. Especially given the level of his opponent not much was made of the fight. At the time it was quite a significant upset.

If Hattons lawyer actually said what you quoted above, thats not exactly a respectful comment towards Witter and factually incorrect as well. It doesnt help matters does it, especially when Hatton has been reported as saying he doesnt want to fight Witter because Junior has been disrespecful to him.fatton wrote:The sad reality is that Hatton's lawyer nailed it with his "2 men and a dog at Doncaster Dome" comment. Does Hattons Lawyer think it appropriate to make comments like that? Shouldnt that be left to his promoter? Does He have a promoter now?
My advice to Ricky would be fight Witter next, the chances are that another fight at 147 against a decent opponent will result in another loss.
My Advice to Witter is to fight one of the other champions and slaughter them. The publicity will come.
Has Hatton ever been asked publicly if he thinks he can beat Witter?
Also, if every top 10 welter and lightwelter disrespected Ricky verbally, would that mean that Ricky would have to retire, as he would have noone to fight on a matter of principle?

Why is it nonesence? I am very against racism of any kind but I also get angry when race is brought into an arguement when it wasnt brought up or didnt belong in the first place - I Think the word chestnut may have come over as a bit flippant, but the posters comments are quite valid - If however anyone is deliberately racist then they need to be dealt with harshly and I have no problem with that - Thankfully Junior Witter, Amir Khan etc are seen by most of us as talented fighters and whatever we may say, concerns their performance in the ring or their personalties as people.jimmy the gent wrote:you write a lot of nonsence, mate. this one has been talked about for as long as i've been posting on these boards.
my opinion has changed given recent events.
i think now is the time to do the fight.
it should be hatton's next fight in a football stadium in the summer.
but malignaggi is the bigger fight cos he's big in new york.
so i see HBO building that one up and witter being left behind again.

I agree with WildWaylon i dont think Billys post is "nonsense" he is just stating facts that have happened in his life that may make him feel aggrieved. Nonsense is a strong word coming from a man that cant even spell it!

OK I have but I honestly cant see how the man is being racist, sorry but I cant - I was walking down some stairs with a woman when a black lad pushed by, nearly knocking the woman over - When I had a go at him he got angry and suggested I was having a go because of his colour - Then I got angry because he unnecessarily brought colour up - It is an issue using the race card and its the young in particular that do it - A lot of younger black people do see racism in situations or in things said when its not there at all - Older more mature black people are wiser and less likely to respond unless a comment is blatantly racist or there is an obvious inuendo regarding skin tone - Are you not being a little too over sensitive here - I would be the first to remark/complain if I thought the post had racist intentions which I beleive it hasnt.jimmy the gent wrote:read his post again. it is nonsence. race does not need to be brought up for you to know it is there.WildWaylon wrote:Why is it nonesence? I think people are often more likly to claim racism becaues its part of every day life for them and sometimes they are sensitive f it. Also because it has got better over the years older members of the community remember it being worse so don't let the little things winde them up as much where as younger members who have been born hear feel they don't get as fair a crack of the whip because of there race.WildWaylon wrote:OK I have but I honestly cant see how the man is being racist, sorry but I cant - I was walking down some stairs with a woman when a black lad pushed by, nearly knocking the woman over - When I had a go at him he got angry and suggested I was having a go because of his colour - Then I got angry because he unnecessarily brought colour up - It is an issue using the race card and its the young in particular that do it - A lot of younger black people do see racism in situations or in things said when its not there at all - Older more mature black people are wiser and less likely to respond unless a comment is blatantly racist or there is an obvious inuendo regarding skin tone - Are you not being a little too over sensitive here - I would be the first to remark/complain if I thought the post had racist intentions which I beleive it hasnt.jimmy the gent wrote:read his post again. it is nonsence. race does not need to be brought up for you to know it is there.WildWaylon wrote: Why is it nonesence? we can all sit here analysing spelling and grammatical errors in our post, mate. Now, you're saying this man may feel aggrieved about his experiences in the armed forces and im saying maybe, just maybe, junior witter feels the same way in his experiences as a boxer.
wildwaylon, please point out where in my post did i say billy bessey's post was racist. My point was that the points that he was making were weak in debating this type of issue.
josh fg makes a good point. i can understand that people may get pissed of when people bring out the race card, but if you live in this country you must be able to see that there is still a race equality problem. unfortunately that may always be there.

Witter was active when he was with Warren.
He chose to leave that situation (In my view the Ingle camp mis-advised him) and tied himself into a promoter that has kept him ticking over with no other option but to take the traditional route to a title i.e lots of waiting around and eliminators.
He's got his title now, and appears no better off than when he didn't have it - I'm convinced we have seen the best of Witter, and it would be a sad waste of talent if he achieves little more than what he already has, but he needs to blame himself for that, not Hatton.
