Hi Chesh, happy new year to you and your family - We went down to the Isle of Wight end of Sept to see my wifes sister, a nun in an encosed order - Theres a pub there that I have been using for years, great food and beer - Normally we would have a meal and enjoy the evening - This time after eating I bought a pint and stood outside - The wind blew down the Esplanade making it quite chilly - It had rained and the rought iron tables and chairs were wet so you couldnt sit down if you wanted to - I drank up and we went back to our hotel - It was a bit cold in the room so I put on a blow heater which was a bit smelly burning off the accumilation of dust from not being used through the summer - Half an hour later I had the manager pounding on the door accusing me of smoking in the room - I tried to explain but he wouldnt have it so in the end I blew my top called him a fat twat and told him to piss off while he had the chance - Next morning I went to pay and was told the bill had already been settled - The cheaky swine had used my bank details given at the time of booking - "Where is he" I asked and was told he was at the dentist - For the next 7 hours before getting the ferry I kept going back trying to see him and got excuse after excuse from his staff - This year I am going to try and hire a flat and if I cant I wont go - I said to my wife when we got home thats it I have done with pubs and hotels - OK when the summer comes I will have a pint outside, I usually do anyway but not at any other times - Why couldnt pubs and hotels have a smoke room with an extractor? - I know of 5 pubs that have already closed and 2 have been demolished - I know one pub that is going to break the law for regulars by having a smoke room on the landlords premises and I have been told about a pub in Devon that is already doing it - Heaters under porches is not the answer.chesh wrote:I feel the same about the smoking laws, Waylon. Happy New Year, Waylon! Before the new law was introduced, my local boozer had smoking and no-smoking rooms. The smoking rooms had a very powerful and efficient air extraction system in the ceiling. Everyone was - or seemed to be - happy with the arrangement.
