If he wants the big payday, then I'd say the third choice.

How about none of the above?

My best suggestion would be to go DOWN...............

To Australia and deal with the "next" generation of SMs - No point in bashing up Echols - Mundines done it and Ottke.

No point in wasting time chasing Bhop - never going to happen.

Light Heavy? No more likely than the others - Why would Tarver (never mind RJJ and Toney - who will be sticking at Heavy - without question) fight him.

He can make a fight with Green, bash him up and set up a "unification" with Mundine.

D Leave sports network

I cant believe how easy Calzaghe is brain washed. Hasn’t he learned from being WBO champ that you don’t get a shot at a major belt untill Ottke beats them. What does Calzaghe think he is going to achieve if he beats Gonzalez for the WBO, shot at Tarver? Roy Jones? Woods? Come on Calzaghe you are not going to get a shot at them with your almighty WBO belt. You are going to fight people like Richard Hall, Montell Griffin, David Telesco. Great Calzaghe thats just as good as the people you are fighting at super middle. If Calzaghe had a thinking Brain he would of dropped that WBO belt and chased Otkke or the WBC belt. Just think if Calzaghe won the WBC on the night he won the WBO. Calzaghe would have been huge now and would have beaten Ottke. Face it Calzaghe you will never get out of your comfort Zone and people will look back Career and say "what if"

Monzon, Hagler and Hopkins did it at 160. If they had moved around the weights they wouldnt have been nearly as great.

Conteh did it at 175.

Hamed (did it at World level) at Feather.

Hatton (IMO) will stay at 140 and prove himself the best.

There is plenty of unfinished business for Calzaghe at 168.

IMO he hasnt proved himself the best.

If he wants to move to 175 and leave 168 as a half baked job, thats up to him.

Its a stupid move though, as I think he will really struggle at 175. (Although he may be favoured to beat Woods or Johnson for the IBF title)
His sucess at 175 will be very limited.

He could stay at 168. Pay a fortune to get Ottke over hear, wipe the floor with him. Get Mundine over and knock him out, knock out Echols then beat Reid.

Job Done. - Retirement and some kind of legacy.

Light Heavy is a bad move and whoever has advised him to do this has given him Bad advice.

Another option would be to dump Wawwen and sign for someone who can make these big fights for him.

I voted for Calzaghe to go Stateside and callout Hoppo but I agree with Knockout Artist, Joe could still establish himself as a 'legend' of sorts at Super-Middleweight were he to clean up and unify the division.

But in 7 years he hasn't fought one single other title holder so we would be foolish to think it will happen now.

So if he cares at all about his legacy then drastic action needs to be taken which is either go to the US and campaign like crazy for Bernard Hopkins or move up to Light-heavyweight and try to make some headway up there.

I suppose moving up is the more likely because I feel Hopkins is probably waiting around at Middleweight for the likes of De La Hoya and Mosely (maybe even Vargas or a comebacking Trinidad) to come and challenge him. More money for Hopkins in those fights than Calzaghe AND arguably less dangerous in that he won't have to fight a naturally bigger man.

Drop the WBO belt NOW!!
Every one knows who the best Super Middle in the world is.
Hell everyone knows who the best Heavy in the world is..He sure as much don't care for a belt round his waist, which says "I need to pay these guys x dollars every time I defend this".

Don't drop allegedly though, he IS one of the best promoters in the world. FACT. And he will get the names over and the shows made.

But drop the belt and go to the states, show up at every Hopkins, Tarver Jones fight that you can.
Get on as many chat/sport shows, as is possible.
The Yanks don't like it up 'em....and sure as hell won't like Calzaghe over there telling them he is unbeaten and is ready for any of their boys.

Then get over to Germany and do the same to the German.

Great site all!!
