Just cruising through Ibeabuchi-Byrd & wondered what people's opinions were here...
After that uppercut, Byrd gets up, & still on wobbly legs, is bullrushed by Ibeabuchi, who just slightly bumps into Byrd, but clearly doesn't throw a punch. Byrd goes down, not so much because of the bump, & certainly not as a result of a punch, since no punch was thrown, but it wasn't just a slip either. The second, "knockdown" was a result of Byrd still being unsteady from the first knockdown.
In this instance, a knockdown is credited as is usually the case it seems. My question is this --- if a fighter plainly isn't hit with a shot, but is on the ringmat as a result of a punch for which he had previously been down but not yet recovered his legs, should it be ruled another knockdown? In purely technical terms the answer must be no --- but on the other hand the guy didn't just slip, either, he is hurt & unsteady.
So my question is should such a situation be ruled a knockdown or a slip? My wording is actually a little complicated looking at it now, so hopefully if it's confusing some of you have access to Ibeabuchi-Byrd to more clearly see what I'm saying.
Thoughts?
Question Regarding Knockdowns...

I knew I worded it poorly. Let me further clarify --- In the case of both Judah & Berbick, they are not cleared to continue when they get up & fall back down.
What I'm making a point about is when a fighter is floored, beats the count, takes the standing count, is motioned to continue, but a moment later falls down when no punch is thrown, but not because of a slip, rather as a result of continued instability.
Yeah, that's a whole lot less complicated
I wonder if this fight is on youtube...

It most certainly is.
Ikemefula fans are a force to be reckoned with.

"Or in the case of Byrd not allowing the KD if there was addtional (but not punching) contact." - BoxBuzz
That's pretty much what I'm getting at, whether that sort of thing should officially be noted as a knockdown or not. I'm not sure one way or another, really. I think a case can be made in both directions.

Ibeabuchi hit Byrd with a right hand punch before he went down the second time. It was evident from the Part II video. Whether it was a hard punch or not would seem to be beside the point. It was obvious from Byrd's eyes that he had not recovered from the first knockdown. The referee did him a favour putting a count on him. He was badly hurt.

I've got a slow connection going on here so YouTube is outta the question & I obviously don't have my copy of this fight with me at work, but I don't remember a punch causing the second knockdown? I'll have to re-check. I'm not protesting the stoppage, & I was just making an example of that fight anyway. It's not the point I was getting at.Brute wrote:Ibeabuchi hit Byrd with a right hand punch before he went down the second time. It was evident from the Part II video. Should it be declared a fresh knockdown if a fighter falls without being hit, as a result of unsteady legs after they've already been cleared to continue by the referee?
