Johnny Tapia on some good stuff

Post by bennie »

Johnny Tapia believes that the FBI, who invaded Top Rank offices this past week, are looking into his fights with Paulie Ayala.
Tapia has been telling the Media in Albuquerque that it's about time the FBI looked into his two losses to Ayala and that the truth will finally come out. Tapia suffered his first career loss to Ayala in 1999 and also dropped a close rematch in 2001.
Investigators, as we know, are looking at several fights, none of them involving "My Crazy Life" Johnny. They are currently eyeing the 'over-under' wagering on the Oscar De La Hoya-Yory Boy Campas fight last May in Las Vegas. The fight was stopped at 2:54 of the seventh round when Campas' trainer Romulo Quirarte jumped on to the ring apron, forcing referee Vic Drakulich to halt the bout.
The fight went more than 6 1/2 rounds, allowing bettors who wagered on the 'over' limit set for that fight to win their bets.

I hope he doesn't do anything crazy again (when he finds out the truth). Although I aint seen his fights with Ayalia, most ringside observers felt he won. He's geniunelly believes Barerra inflicted his first defeat - I think Medina might argue otherwise, although unlike ringside observers I thought that one was a close one (Medina vs Tapia, I'm talking about).

You've got to love him though.

He should fight Ayala again and afterwards, stay retired.

Yeah, a 3rd Ayala-Tapia fight would be good, would still like to see Mculloch get a piece of that too.

I have both Ayala-Tapia fights on tape (well definitely still the first one, brilliant fight) and I don't think Tapia was shafted, both close but not robberies.
