I know there are a lot of hatton Witter type threads on this forum but was looking at some old Boxing monthly rankings which still have Hatton ranked above Witter at LWW.
If as most hear think he can Witter beats one of the two other champions would he have proved more at the weight than hatton and therefore legitimatly be Britains top LWW?

No - Hatton beat the man and is still undefeated at Light Welter. In my oppinion Hatton only beat one top (possibly 2 if we includ Castillo) draw fighter at LWW the aging Tsue. Witter has beat Corly good but also aging and he has beaten Vivian Harris, as well as previouse to that having a better pedagree of holding the EBU title.stujones wrote:No - Hatton beat the man and is still undefeated at Light Welter. There's top draw and there is top draw. Hatton's top draw is a different level to Corley or Harris. Untill Hatton loses at 140 or makes a perminant intention to stay at 147 - then he is the #1 fighter in the devision.
Hatton beat the man, but if Calzaghe had beat no one since beating Eubank that wouldn't make him the best fighter in the devision. To stay No. 1 you have to beat the best and consistently beat the best possible contenders.
So Witter beat N'dou, Corley, Harris, and Kotelnik all of whom are good fighters if we then add a fighter like Torres or Malig, so Hatton's best are Maussa, Castillo, Tszyu, then we are scraching around to WBU defences like Tackie. Witter's record would stand up as well there.

Theres only one way we'll find out who Britains top LWW is and thats for Junior and Ricky to get it on, Britains top LWW title is vacant until then

Not sure "won't" is fair. Provided he does it in 2008 as one of his two fights. The statements I've read from Team Hatton haven't said he won't, just not at the moment. How long does one have to not fight the best to no longer be considered the man at the devision. I think if your fighting the best in the devision you prove yourself to be the No. 1 at the devision otherwise you can be #1 cos you got one lucky punch and defended against bums.
