I have just seen some old footage from Croatian TV. It shows Yvan Prebeg in a fight with a double knock down. The referee is counting over BOTH fighters. It is hard to understand the opponents name, but I think that is Eddie Avoth from Wales in a European light heavyweight title fight.
Can anyone confirm?
Best wishes

Yvan Prebeg double knock down
sorry i can't help you with the name you're seeking. Double knockdowns do occur from time to time. The referee was right in counting over both fighters. now here's where it gets tricky. there were occcasions when , if one fighter got up before the ten count, the referee waved his arms and declared him the winner. the corrrect rule is to continue the count after the first fighter gets up....and if the second fighter gets up before ten the fight goes on. if he doesn't get up then he is counted out. can't recall the specific fights ..i don't think they were major ones and i'm going by memory from reading about them over the years.
the most famous...and notorious..double knockdown was in 1912 when ad wolgast dropped joe rivers with a body punch. at the same time his punch landed rivers hit wolgast with a left hook and both went down and were hurt. the referee started to count...but the fix was obviously in...and during his count he actually helped wolgast to his feet and continued counting. to continue the farce, the bell rang when the count may have been around eight...and rivers got to his corner unaided...but the referee
insisted he had counted to ten...and counted rivers out and raised wolgast' hand.
the referee was lucky and escaped when a minor riot ensued.
