he has stopped the bidding for the thaxton match and the commonwealth boxing board will meet tommorrow about the possibility of stripping khan of his title as thaxton is the mandatory.

Thaxton would run over Murray. Khan/Thaxton is much more interesting. It looks as though Khan is going in a different direction though. However, Khan is the type who likes to challenge himself and I don't think he's scared to fight Thaxton, so I wouldn't be surprised if he does fight Thaxton after his next fight.Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:After Limond, Lawton and Earl I was expecting this to be a done deal. I live in hope of the fight after the next being against Thaxton. But I doubt it. Think the moment has passed.
Murray v Thaxton for the Commonwealth belt would be nice.
I dunno, Warren is already muting Katsidis in the summer, depends how the Diaz negotiations go I guess.ArtOfWar wrote:Thaxton would run over Murray. Khan/Thaxton is much more interesting. Think Thaxton would be a good litmus test for Murray.

Is this proof that they knew Earl was shot? Watching Earl's interview before the fight I was worried.
He'll be stripped of his belt now. No one would have cared if Khan pulled out of a fight with Thaxton. If Khan wouldn't have ran his mouth so much.
Don't run your mouth if you can't back it up. One of the fundamentals in life.

It's a common mistake when young, upcoming fighters speak as if they're already at the level of guys like Mayweather.
Having trailed the careers of Mayweather, Jones and Whitaker on tape for a few years now, I realise that they were all fairly humble until they reached actual world champion status.
In fact, it was only relatively recently that Mayweather started saying things like "he needs me more than I need him".
I think Khan, as talented as he is, is beginning to believe his own hype too early. It could be ominous for him at the very top level.

I do not blame Khan or Warren for taking a different route that will potentially provide a world title shot. Thaxton can wait.
The BBC website stated that "Thaxton's camp rejected a significant offer from Kahn's promoter allegedly outside the bidding process, before Khan elected to switch his attention elsewhere just a day before purse offers were due to be opened".
Simon Block, the British Boxing Board of Control general secretary also stated that "The board will be disappointed that Khan has decided not to put himself forward for the bidding process, and also that Thaxton appears to have turned down a career-best purse," said Block. So Thaxton certainly had his chance. Either way, I dont think Khan needs this fight at all.

"Thaxton would run over Murray" - boy is thaxton overated! Just like he ran over Dave Stewart, and lets be fair, 90% of us would pick Murray over Stewart, no?ArtOfWar wrote:Thaxton would run over Murray. Khan/Thaxton is much more interesting. Murray's pretty over-rated too, though, at least so far as his record and achievements go. Sure, he looks a good talent, but who exactly has he beaten to make people believe he's better than Khan, Thaxton, etc?Wales wrote:"Thaxton would run over Murray" - boy is thaxton overated! It doesn't matter if we think he'd beat Stewart - he hasn't even fought someone close to Stewart. So until he does, he's proved nothing.
To be honest I'd give that mendoza a good shot at holding his own with Stewart, and the mexican he foguht in Vegas last time out would give the scott a bloody good fight too. Im not arguing the toss over Murray Stewart, Im questioning why Thaxton would "run over Murray" when he cant run over Stewart, he didnt even run over Lawton.oliverfennell wrote:Murray's pretty over-rated too, though, at least so far as his record and achievements go. Murrays performance against hickman was superb.

I must say that i read it that Thaxton did turn down a purse , so therefore the fight before it went to bids.
Of course we don't know what he was offered, so it may have been insulting, but as John had stated 'I'll fight Khan for free' , it doesn't look like he will.
Khan could still of insisted on the fight, and it could have gone to bids.
I think the truth is about halfway on both sides of the story.

Jonno is a tough one, I too think he'd struggle to beat Murray but then I thought he'd struggle to beat Meager - unfortunately he has not looked all that great since then.
As for Murray it is a shame the bigger fights aren't being made domestically for him. If Hennessey won't match him with Thaxton then why not pair him with Stewart or Meager?
And it's a shame Khan won't fight for the British but did anyone seriously think he would after his next fight was announced as a WBO eliminator? By the way who is the current WBO champ, Casamayor? If so I can well see him getting a shot at a vacant title against a fighter of Frank's choice

Yes it was, but Hickman was no Earl, Limond or even Lawton. Get my point? Everybody disses Khan's opponents (which I suppose is natural given how high-profile he is) while at the same time fawning over Murray, who has fought a lower grade of opponent than Khan despite having had more fights..Wales wrote:Murrays performance against hickman was superb.

Amir Khan is not a coward! And to say that about anyone - am or pro who gets in the ring is a bit silly. He has obviously worked hard to get where he is and deserves a bit of respect for that.
Since when has Thaxton been so good? Don't get me wrong he has done well in his career, he's a battler who has kept going for years but Khan wants world titles and as far I am concerned he SHOULD avoid Thaxton to get some proper US exposure. If MH thinks that Thaxton is a world beater he is dead wrong.
I am fed up with silly press releases from the MH office. There was a time when I thought allegedly was under pressure from MH and was in danger of losing his spot as the No 1 promoter in the UK. But most of the MH boxers haven't gone anywhere in their careers, Carl Froch is a good example, potentially his best years wasted.
