Williams looked a reet old handful against the old boy Eastman december 06.

12 month layoff? Is he coming back? Injured? Turns 37 in may so knocking on a bit.

A fight with Wayne Elcock for the British & Commonwealth belts would be a nice scrap. Anyone know Richard?

Was going to ask / say the same thing about Glenn Catley, came back had a couple wins, almost fought Reid, then nothing happened. Anyone know if he is still pursuing his comeback?
Another former champ Froch could fight, though I suspect a fit Catley would give him more than a shot Reid.

For the record, Wayne is only the British champion, as Howard didn't put it on the line and then was stripped. As you will probably know, Darren Barker is the Commonwealth belt holder.

Wayne will be making a voluntary defence of his Lonsdale belt in March.

Sadly not, no. Macca is having an eight-rounder in Wolverhampton on February 28. He is, however, expecting to be made mandatory for the title soon.

Wayne has told me one or two names that are in the melting pot, but will have to wait and see.

Oliver did you really think that Williams looked good against Eastman?
I thought he looked like an old fighter after 6 rounds, think Richard should call it a day.

My names not Oliver but yes i was in the flesh and Williams in person was built like a tank. Really did not come across so much on TV when i watched same fight on DVD.

He was strong & was giving it a go til the 12th when he got clocked.

Where does he/did he train?

I just don't think that Williams has got much left to beat the top middles in the country, so where does that leave him. I don't want to see him being a target for up and comers

Agree. "The Secret" was one of my favourites but there's little point in him coming back now. Chances are he could beat Elcock, but he's already won the British, so what's the point? He was always aiming for world titles, gave it a good shot, came up short. No shame in that, but if he hasn't made it by 37, he's not going to.

I believe he won a WBC eliminator, so hopefully he'll get his shot and is just treading water while he waits. He probably didn't make the best decision in basing himself in Spain; hardly a boxing hotbed.

When Williams beat Shannan Taylor, I thought he looked a world beater.

I guess he just turned pro too late. If he was 32 rather than 37 now, he might yet have made it.

On a side note, he's probably the friendliest and most approachable boxer I've ever met on the circuit. Well, him or Francis Ampofo.

Strange to think that out of Martinez, Williams and Shannon Taylor

Its Taylor that got the shot at a world title first.
You'd have said Taylor was finished after the Williams fight.

Hes an awesome boxer, its a travesty hes not had more opportunities, but who's going to want to fight him by choice.
