This fight is full of promoter propoganda bullshit. I'd be interested to know what the career best purse offer to Thaxton was.

It looks like both sides are at fault for this not happening. Frank was never going to go for the 50:50 purse split, but was his offer to JT a serious one.

Yet again Sports Network and Hennessey promotions fail to make an obvious fight

Yes it was, but Hickman was no Earl, Limond or even Lawton. Get my point? Everybody disses Khan's opponents (which I suppose is natural given how high-profile he is) while at the same time fawning over Murray, who has fought a lower grade of opponent than Khan despite having had more fights..
not too sure of your point there mate, I never once compared Hickman to Khans opponents. My origional point was why will Thaxton run through Murray when he couldnt run through Dave Stewart, who in my opinion is no better than Murray. I commented that I thought Mendoza and the Mexican Murray fought last time out were as good as Stewart, but never once mentioned Amir.

OK, I went off on a bit of a tangent. Just talk of Murray made me think of comparisons to Khan.

Warren asked for the 50/50 split so would obviouly had accepted it. However due to time frames and existing plans he made Thaxton an offer he will never see again and the figure his advisor asked for.

The offer would have, I think, been a record for a British title fight outside of the HW division.

Thaxton has been very badly advised and was even told that if he didn't accept the offer then Khan would be moving on and his payday would be gone.

Someone on Planet Norwich had better explain to Thaxton as why his payday has just disappeared because he chose to listen to their 'advice'.

Perhaps his Promoter will pay him the same for fighting John Murray.

Thaxton-Murray would be a decent alternative. Not sure who'd win that one. Murray might be a little too fresh, but then he does take an awful lot of shots at times. Though he's getting on a bit, Thaxton can still punch. Tough one to call.

I personally think John Fewkes would outbox both of them .

Cheers BC (if true)

Very Bizarre, wonder what Hennesseys reasons were? it was very poor advice IMO. Would've been a Great opportunity for JT and (what sounds like) a very nice payday

Whats the crack then 'BOX OFFICE'?

Until the details are fully known..Thaxton fills us in on the details from his side  ..then we can only guess.

So my guess is that its something to do with when the fight actually happening.
Maybe they offered Jon the Feb date...and in all fairness if that was the case then I can see a justifiable reason Jon decided to ask for big money.
A month notice and the xmas festivities to budge from somebody who struggles to get to the weight anyway....as said though its all speculation so far.

The BBC website stated that "Thaxton's camp rejected a significant offer from Kahn's promoter allegedly allegedly outside the bidding process, before Khan elected to switch his attention elsewhere just a day before purse offers were due to be opened".

Simon Block, the British Boxing Board of Control general secretary also stated that "The board will be disappointed that Khan has decided not to put himself forward for the bidding process, and also that Thaxton appears to have turned down a career-best purse," said Block. So Thaxton certainly had his chance. Either way, I dont think Khan needs this fight at all.
So what if Thaxton didn't accept an offer outside the bidding process? Maybe it wasn't to his liking, career-best or not. That's what purse bids are for. Sports Network could have put in a low bid and, if they won, he wouldn't have been paid much anyway.

Khan - or Khan's team - have decided to side step Thaxton and he should be stripped accordingly and not be allowed to be nominated for the British title for whatever length of time they stipulate (12 months?).

Khan's choice of course to take this action but he must also suffer the consequences. Then again, I'm sure they feel they have bigger fish to fry.

To get this fight on was a very simple matter, turn up at the purse bid and put your money where your mouth is!
What is so difficult about that?
Hennessy was ready it seems, what's your excuse?
Your the ones who pulled out , was it that you have no faith in your boys chin?

Was the offer, strings attached maybe, designed to be rejected - Khan may have wanted the fight, but FW probably didnt - Frank seems keen on keeping the scheduled fight and wanting Khan to go along with his plans.

You know what. I don't think its Khans fault. It looks like FW is pulling the wool over Khans eyes. FW needs to show Khan that he's confident in him for them to have a business relationship.

I think FW gave Thaxton a really stupid offer before the purse bid so he could use this as an excuse to Khan that “Thaxton has turned down our offer to fight you”. “We won’t bother going into the bidding process because he’s already turned us down”. Khan would have lost more reputation if FW pulled out of negotiations during the bidding process than pulling out before because "Thaxton already turned down an offer"

Thaxton didn’t need to take an offer at that point because he thought they were going into a purse bid and negotiations.

Exoduss seems to be the only one seeing through all the BS.

The reason this fight didn't happen is very simple: promoter politics. Neither promoter involved wanted the other to have the glory of promoting this contest.

I bet ANYTHING you like both Thaxton and Khan wanted this fight.

Hennessy has made offers to Khan that have been turned down. Alledgedly would have advised him not to take the fight and Khan would listen - Warren can give him pretty much anything he wants.

It seems Warren made a last minute offer, that was always going to be turned down. Even if it didn't contain the dreaded 'OPTIONS,' Hennessy wouldn't have wanted to hand the contest at Warren at that stage...

Particularly when he can just say, well if Warren is prepared to pay that much, why doesn't he just submit it in a bid.

DO NOT BLAME EITHER OF THE FIGHTERS FOR THIS ONE. British Boxing at it's very best.

Amir slag's Jon and now has taken a powder from this fight... Disgraceful!

Amir should really be hiding his face right now in shame, or better yet I am sure his pal knows some great plastic surgeons. Mind you his work looks like it gone done with a blowtorch and a pair of rusty pliers.

I think its a bit of an over reaction from some people here. Yes, I am gutted - but Khan is fighting a decent fighter.

I'm sure if Thaxton / Murray / any other British Lightweight had been offered a WBO eliminator (alledged) and the winner taking on a dangerous, but limited, beatable and possibly damaged champion - then I am sure they would go through that route.

I don't like it when people say a fighter is a coward cause they take a different route, not necessarily an easier route... Kristjansen is alright.

I think this is surely a case of Warren not allowing his charge to potentially fight on another promoters card. Rather than have it go to purse bids, he offered Thaxton a 'career best payday' rather than risk being outbid.

Can anyone recall the last time a major fighter from Warren's stable fought on another promoters card after the fight went to purse bids? I can't. Not saying it hasn't happened in recent memory, but merely that I cannot recall it.

Sorry, perhaps I should have said 'rival british promoter.'

Calzaghe was indeed on a show by another promoter, Sauerland was it, or Palle, I forget who promoted Veit now.

This reminds me of Rock Newman telling everyone Lewis 'turned down' an offer to fight Bowe-- meaning he offered Lewis a nice sum but well below the market value & well less than Lewis deserves, who preditcably declined.

Thats all you need to be able to turn around & say A turned down a fight with B. Lets hear from Thaxton.

How much will a loss against kastidis mean to Khan though? At 21 realistically he can easily learn loads form the fight and come again. Especially with him being in Olivers gym with Mark Thompson (the vincent vuma loss did a lot for him) and Jamie is no stranger to having the psyche to bounce back. Also, the aussie isn't unbeatable by any means, I give Khan a chance against him regardless.

Not without ever having tasted punch power though.

It would be like winning a few dukes over Zuri Lawrence and Julius Francis then being manouvered into a world title fight with a Tommy Morrison-styled hitter. Looks like a recipe for disaster.

Well it depends on the manner of the defeat. If he gets flattened, Audley style it would be very negative.

A late round stoppage after boxing well can be put down to inexperience and would be easy to bounce back.

Kastidis didnt have it all his own way against Earl and looked very easy to hit, Amir wont stay in range like Earl did, he'll be discouraged form going to war with the aussie. Anyone who seen kastidis bout with Amonsant last time out couldnt rule Khan out without giving hima chance, surely. kastidis is favourite, but Khan has a shot imo, hopefully we'll see.
