Mexico will give dual citizenship if your father's cousin 6 times removed's mother's sister is a Mexican citizen. The U.S. doesn't recognize dual citizenship.

Did Robert say Oscar made the Mexican Olympic team? I heard he didn't and was turning pro.

i actually yeah i did talk to robert and he told me that Oscar did make the Mexican Olypic Team and Oscar has no plans in turning pro. any time soon.

My husband, who officiated Sat. & Sun., heard the rumor and passed it on to me - but he didn't get a chance to talk to Robert. Thanks for the info!

Mel - I thought you chastised someone on here for passing on rumors. Tsk, tsk. I had to slam you for that one. Keep forwarding the info, rumors and all. It opens up the channels of communication and gets the debates going. All in the name of promoting amateur boxing.

I chastized someone for rumors regarding being kicked out of Colorado Springs. I think that's different than a rumor about going pro.

i was there, and they were actually presented in the ring as members of the us and mexican teams. they also presented medals to the the kids in the bout.

pretty cool if i say, twins making the teams for 2 different countries.

cant wait to see the results! good luck to the Molina's

You were where? And they stated that the US members were the Olympic team? There's only one Olympian boxing against Mexico - Luis Yanez. Just curious.

just to clear the mix up, i was at the Silver Gloves on that saturday and they presented Javier and Oscar as part of their respective Olympic teams.

Oscar Valdez (Sonora) venció 13-7 a Rey Vargas (Distrito Federal)

Interestingly 17-year old Oscar Valdez beat Mexicos P4P No 1 Carlos Cuadras, the 2007 Pan Am Games champion in the semi-final. The Mexican Boxing Federation decided Valdez was going to the Trinidad Qualifier and if he didn't qualify Cuadras would get the chance for the last qualifier. But then they realized there are only two spots left in the 54 kg weight class and there is only the Trinidad event for them.
So it was to be decided if there would be held another box-off or simply Cuadras misses the Olympics.
