Erdei dethrones Gonzalez!
According to Universum's website, Zsolt Erdei has defeated Julio Cesar Gonzalez by unanimous decision in Karlsruhe, Germany to capture the WBC light heavyweight title. The official scores were 118-110 (twice) and 117-111. Like Gonzalez, Erdei is a former Olympian and he joins Istvan Kovacs as only the second Hungarian to capture a world title (more to come).

This Erdei sounds good, going by the scorecards - I wonder if Calzaghe will be so certain about moving up.

Also, whats the odds Michaelswecki will get the shot before Joe.

Where does Gonzales rank in the short ever title reign category.

While I'm think about it, what about Manuel Medina last WBO reign.

Erdei will fight Michalczewski next and Michalczewski will win back his title, German promoters know what they are doing, Erdei is made for Michalczewski's redemption.

Looked an easy win, just saw 9 rounds of it and Zsolt looked an excellent fighter. He won the first three rounds, hurting Gonzalez in the 2nd with a big right hand.
He's a dangerous counterpuncher, catching and hurting the much taller Mexican throughout. Julio just wasn't at the races: out thought, out boxed and outpunched.
Shaken up in the last two rounds too, and looked on his way out in the last, but Erdei played it safe to get an easy win.

Calzaghe, who was mentioned, would have his hands full with this guy.

I always fancied Erdei in this, he came in kinda unheralded, he was an outstanding amateur and has little nuances that often go undetected.
As Mighty Warrior says, Calzaghe would have his hands full with this fella and I'd pick him over Dariusz in his next defence, the next German light-heavy king?

you would have to fancy Erdei over D-Man on that performance!!

Would be a huge fight and universum would get 25% of both purses!!! ;-)

considering Gonzalez beat D-Man yet got a beating off Erdei you have to wonder how much Dariuz has slipped!!!
