Gomez Mcallister - WBU title
Gomez Mcallister - WBU title
Mike Gomez fights Lee Mcallister up in aberdeen in March for the WBU lightweight title. Winnable fight for Mike this, I also feel the extra weight will suit him.

It may do some good for Gomez going up in weight, but he's in against a good career lightweight in McAllister. So what Gomez might gain in his stamina, he may lose out in strength against a bigger opponent.
As its for the WBU title, it'll be for 12 rounds, i just can't see Gomez going that distance in a hard fight. I'd give him a chance for the first 5 rounds against any Superfeather or lightweight in the country, as he can still punch hard enough. After 5 rounds though i wouldn't bet on Gomez

Thanks for info , I didn't know that.Wales wrote:Jeff Thomas had Mcallister downa couple of times, he's a career super feather and not a big puncher (I dont think).Old bones Ian wrote:McAllister isn't a puncher , but he's busy and has a good chin. I still say McAllister has a good chin, but of course Gomez has a punch.
Its last chance yet again for Michael, he may pull off another shock in Scotland.
I've met Michael quickly a couple of times, he always chatted and seemed a decent guy.
If i had to put money on this fight i'd go for a stoppage win for McAllister in 8 rounds, sorry

And Oisin Fagan had Jeff Thomas down a couple of times in his Irish title fight. I think Gomez V Fagan would be a cracker- two hard b@stards!Wales wrote:Jeff Thomas had Mcallister downa couple of times, he's a career super feather and not a big puncher (I dont think).Old bones Ian wrote:McAllister isn't a puncher , but he's busy and has a good chin. Dont forget it's not that long ago that Lee's career was almost ended, following an horrific crash on a moped whilst on his holidays.
Credit to him for resurrecting his career, and improving.
I remember well how down everyone was at Wincobank, because everyone couldn't forsee him boxing again.
What I'm saying is that this means so much to Lee, he won't let this slip.
Lee is good technician totally in the Ingle mode.
All he needs to do is to get on the balls of his feet and pop the jab for the first three rounds, take Mikey into the middle period of the fight then step it up.
Lee by mid to late stoppage.

Think McAllister will be a bit too big, a bit too fresh for Gomez. However, Lee doesn't like pressure. I was there the night he suffered his only loss, a points decision to Dean Hickman in Walsall.
Deano was all over him, not giving him any space to work, cutting off the ring and stinging him with fast-handed left-rights. It was a good performance and a blueprint of how to beat the Scot.
McAllister has come out with all the excuses in the world for that loss to Deano, including the famous ‘I was hit by a flying pint glass in the second round’ line. I was there and that never happened.

probably so, but then again this is what boxing's all about, fights between ppl who are at different stages of their careers.Terry D wrote:I thought he won the rounds also but the shots he landed should have been enough to stop Carl. A prime Gomez rips through him. His shots don't have steam anymore.
Gomez at his best should have been world class. But it often seemed like a different Gomez would turn up each time out.

I agree with Terry D - His chance was there against Carl and whether he won two rounds or three is in material. The fact is, he was stopped because he had nothing left to give.
No excuses either, he was in excellent shape, and was very motivated under his new team.
However, if the Scotsman doesn't like being roughed up, then Gomez might be able to break him down in the first 3-4 rounds, but the advantage Gomez has here may be off set against the weight which favours McAllistar.
Either way, it's good to see Gomez getting back into action quickly - If one fighter needs the focus of regular fighting I would have thought Gomez is the one.

He was in excellent shape, but im not sure his fitness was great. He appeared to slow after the htird. Hopefuly with loads of notice Bobby will have him in tip top shape, and extra weight may help at this stage.Twinkle Toes wrote:I agree with Terry D - His chance was there against Carl and whether he won two rounds or three is in material. I hope so anyway, although Im not to sure how welcome we'd be around Aberdeen afterwards if Mike wins ?
