Was he the greatest French boxer of all-time? France is a country that had a couple of great champions

I just got finished watching the movie"La Vie En Rose" Great film. Anyway,I've got to pick Marcel Cerdan. The "Orchid Man's" chin was a little suspect. Cerdan had a great won/loss record though his competition was mostly in Europe. There is a little home movie footage of his fight with LaMotta. You can see Cerdan's right arm dangling down. Whether that was a result of a knock down or a "hip roll" you can see that his arm was injured.

La Vie En Rose is the story of Edith Piaf. A street urchin who sang in the streets of Paris,was discovered by the owner of a night club,made her debut,and rose to be an international star. The reason I mentioned the movie in the post was because of her torrid affair with Marcel Cerdan. Piaf persuaded Cerdan to return early yo New York(where Piaf was performing)to begin his training for his rematch with LaMotta. Cerdan's plane crashed in the Azores. His sudden loss devasted her. A brilliant film produced in France with English subtitles.

I gotta say that Georges Carpentier, by looking at his record, was the greatest of the French.
