Yeah, fair dues to the guy. Gatti did it so why not?
I actually like watching Duddy fight. I'm not rabidly Welsh so have no problems with the idea he'd beat Lockett, would be a tough fight though.
Pavlik or Taylor would muller him senseless but some of the other middles might just outclass him on points.
I'd like to see Macklin-Duddy. I think Macklin has the style and wherewithal to beat Duddy despite Duddy's better resume.
Even in Pavlik beats Taylor again - which is 50/50 in my book - I think that Duddy has more of a chance of beating Pavlik then Taylor - styles wise. I think Taylor would highlight the flaws with Duddy - not sure Pavlik would to the same degree.
Duddy v Macklin - now that would be a decent scrap - I pity the commentators though - because I can never tell the two apart.
Taylor might just outbox him though, Pavlik would absolutely muller him. Sturm might be his best bet but Sturm is a better boxer, for me, than Abrahams. I just think Abrahams is sturdy and tough. Hard division right now for Duddy. Brian Peters has a natural on his hands with Duddy-Macklin. I know that Graham was very confident of Macklin's chances against Duddy.
Duddy would need a loss on his record before a fight with Macklin is feasible.
I actually think that Duddy would have as much chance as Pavlik in terms of banging each other out - well 70/30 in Pavliks favour in reality - but they aint bad odds - but as you say Taylor would out box him and win a point decision - hence the reason I would favour Duddy in against Pavlik - but thats just my take on it
The one i feel sorry for in all of this is John Duddy himself. He is an amiable, friendly, genuinely nice fella and having spoken to him on a couple of occasions have always found him thus.
He has always admitted he has lots to learn and never placed any hyperbole on himself and has been subjected to some unfairness even by myself i will admit. It's those around him and fans etc that are building him up, never John himself.

Great point Steve.
I have been saying the same myself since all this Duddy BS started flying around.
The lad wasnt even going to turn pro FFS, never mind think about conquering world boxing!; he had to be cajoled into giving the paid code a shot.
Duddy is riding the quest of a wave and doing the best he can with what he has got - he doesnt shout his mouth off and claim to be SRCJJ or anything like it.
He is a hard working pro who is unassuming and down to earth in his demeanor. He gets a lot of stick for someone who is as grounded as he is..

true. Duddy is a gent - all you got to do is watch one of his interview on youtube abd you cant fail but to like him - he could act the billy big balls like Small and that ilke but he doesnt, I just dont think its in him
Terry D wrote:Yeah, apoligies if I was a bit pithy about Duddy. It is mad watching a guy jab well for a few minutes then go into some mad bastarding attacking mode.
I wish him all the best, just don't see a long-term future at the top level for the guy.
I know - its not easy being a fan of his I can tell ya - I end up acting like like Vinny Mitchells burd on coke somethime when I watch him!
Captain Hook wrote:What the eff has "being rabidly Welsh" got to do with supporting Gary Lockett?! Last time I checked he was a good boxer!
We'll see where Duddy's career goes, but I think the Gatti comparisons seem fair. Though I don't think he'll ever win a world title, he fights with his face, as Sligo mentioned: "defence is cheating" etc ....
If his name was Daffid Abrewswithyikjabktusawwwrrggthhhhcoughcoughhack you would be lauding his iron chin and manly defence.
Would I fook! I never mention Rees, am a fan of Enzo Macc's and Joe's but that's it. Lockett is a good boxer. End of story!

I'll buy a gun from the shop, come to Wales, and then kill everyone there until I'm sure you are dead. How do you like them apples?
Or get Owen to bore you to death with tales of fights he has never watched.
You've pushed my buttons Captain (I bet you don't even own a fooking ship). I'm not a violent man but I am going to come to Wales, break into your house, take your goldfish from their bowl, put them on the mantlepiece and watch them die. I'm going to hang your dog upside down, slit his throat, drain his blood then sell him to a Muslim kebab shop owner. I'm going to break into your fridge and use a microscopic pin to pierce the film on your vacuum packed meat, then watch your face as you try to figure out why it is going off. When you wake-up I won't even strike you. I've paid Chuck Norris to come to your house, put on dockers boots, and kick you in the shins, then scrape your shins with his Cuban heel.
You f*cked-up messing with me.
TERRY!! Don't you think you're going way too far? I mean, I can take all the other threats -- doggie dicing, meat tampering and Norris naughtiness, but WATCHING GOLDFISH DIE?!!! You Blackguard!! OOHHH God's going to get you for that one.

Terry, you are so full of shite, you big Queen :)
To do this you would have to fork out more than a tenner on a train, unless you plan on stealing yet another Morris Minor and travelling down...that would involve buying petrol.
We both know the only thing you pay more than a fiver for is not to be mentioned on this board (gay porn and batteries)

When did you get out of the 'Feckless Protection' programme
A woman returns home to live with her parents after leaving her husband. One night her Dad walks into her bedroom to find her pleasuring herself with a vulcanized rubber bad boy. 'What are you doing?' he asks her, to which she replies, 'Dad, this has been by husband for the last 2 years.'
The next night when she arrives home from work she finds her father in her bedroom with a pint of beer in one hand and vulcanized rubber bad boy up his schnitzer. 'What do you think you're doing?' she asks incredulously. He replies, 'Just having a pint with the son-in-law.'
