McCoy came across an interview with Alex Arthur in yesterdays 'Daily Mirror'

I'm with that.

If the guy had just had a virus, then he should not have been in there fighting; plain and simple. I am sure his team would not have let him in there in that condition, which is why I think he is talking a load of rubbish.

He is the proverbial bad loser.

And to make matters worse, he says that he "wants a world title in 2004, or will quit". Mr Arthur, if you cannot defend yourself against single textbook left hooks from domestic opposition, how are you going to be able to fend off 3, 4, 5 and 6 punch combinations from world beaters?

It seems that 'Amazin' Alex Arthur isn't quite so amazing after all, neither in boxing nor in selling himself.

I am ready to fight at any time. Although nothing is set in stone at the moment. I expect to be on sometime either this month or next month. There is also a date in March in the pipeline in my hometown of Llanelli, although nothing has been finalised.

My aim is to have either fought for the British title or to be in contention for it by the end of the year. I personally feel I can go a whole lot further than that, given the opportunities.

Why did you have the lay-off? (Injury, prison, lost interest, other job etc)

I needed a longer break after the Judson fight, but never got it as I was back in the gym 2 weeks after the fight. In the two fights after the Judson fight, I was far from myself and was merely going through the motions; Against Conway, my mind wasn't even on the fight in the ring. It was at this time that I realised I needed a long rest.

During my time off, I undertook and achieved a HND in computing as something for the future. I kept in shape during my time off though, because it was always my plan to return to the ring. I returned to my amateur club (where I started boxing as a schoolboy), and meticulously practised my technical boxing skills ready for my return. Some would say that 5 years out of competition is too much of a long time to return, but the layoff has turned out to be a blessing, as it has totally refreshed my attitude to boxing. I am committed to boxing, the lifestyle, the diet etc. I also have an abundance of confidence in my abilities, with new levels of fitness, much improved boxing skills and defensive skills. Due to me now fighting at my natural weight i.e. Lightweight, I am a whole lot stronger and powerful than in my previous stint. I really am a different fighter altogether, and I can feel it all coming together.

Did you find it hard to get back into shape and commit to dieting etc?

It was easy, as I didn't at any time let myself go during my whole time off. The moment I started back good sparring, it was only a matter of weeks before my timing was back on track.

Was McMillan your hardest nights work?

No. McMillan was sharp, and had really fast hands. However, I managed to get inside on numerous occasions, flooring him in the first and having him in all sorts of trouble on numerous occasions throughout the fight. When the referee rasied his hand it was extremely discouraging, especially as the London crowd (many of whom were his own supporters) jeered the decision. Had it been a 10 rounder, I would have stopped him for sure.

My hardest night's work was the Judson fight. This was because I made it hard for myself, as opposed to Judson making it hard for me. I was young and inexperienced (20), and didn't pace the fight. It was my first 12 rounder, and I was intent on blasting Judson out of there in 5 rounds. I was acually weight drained in that fight though (I weighed a career lightest 9st 1lbs), when I should have been operating at Lightweight. Take nothing away from Judson though; he fought the right fight and won on the night. The guy certainly deserved some success. I was fighting at the wrong weight. I was super-feather when I should have been light.

Alex Arthur i think is in perhaps his last year as a professional figher.

A virus does not make you take every left hook an opponant throws, the problem in the Gomez fight was not his stamina being sapped by a virus, but his inability to move his head, and bob a few of the left hooks gomez was throwing.

It was a punishing defeat, and one i dont think he can bounce back from to be totally honest. and all this crap about he almost knocked Gomez out, he didnt, the 2 times he had Michael in trouble, he did the right thing, he held on, recovered and piled more left hooks into Arthurs unprotected head.

I think is is laughable to talk about how your opponent got lucky, when you get an absolute battering like that.

I think he woudl have done better to just keep schtumm and let his fists do the talking on his next few opponents.

Alex is making it hard for his fanbase to stay loyal with the comments he is consistently coming out with.

I really want(ed?) to see him do well but he is doing himself no favours which is a shame because I thought he did have that kind of 'boy next door' appeal, probably in the same way as Hatton. Ricky however conducts himself far more gracefully, admittedly without tasting defeat to this point but just seems a more humble and respectful chap and I think if Hatton were to lose he would come across better.

As far as I'm concerned Annialated Alex Arthur got exposed as a hyped up hypejob product of SN.

It's not Gomez fault Arthur had a "supposed" virus. In fact, I don't think he even had a virus to be honest. He just got found out. Making up that you had a virus is low, & I hope he get's Ko'd by Gomez again for his comments.
