RJJ eager to take on JC

Eight-time world champion Roy Jones Jr has stepped up his attempt to fight Joe Calzaghe in Wales.
Jones, 38, is facing a high-profile showdown with Felix Trinidad in New York on Saturday and has Calzaghe in his sights after that.

"I want Calzaghe," he said. "If I've got the titles, he has to come and get it but he's got the titles so I have to go and get it.

"It doesn't matter where you fight, you've got to knock him out."

A champion in four different weight divisions from middle to heavyweight, Jones claimed he will knock out Puerto Rican legend Trinidad, 35, in four rounds.

Jones said his last remaining ambition in the ring is to regain the world super-middleweight title from the undefeated Welshman.

Calzaghe, 35, is awaiting confirmation of his April 12 mega-fight in Las Vegas with Bernard Hopkins.

If Jones was to travel to Wales for a fight with Calzaghe, it would be his first outside America in his 19-year professional career.

"The way I see it is that Ricky Hatton came over and fought Floyd Mayweather so it's somebody's turn to go back over there for us, to show that we're impartial, we're fair," he said.

"The only thing left to accomplish that I've thought about is if I go down and regain the super-middleweight title.

"To beat Joe, you're going to have to knock him out. He's far too busy to go 12 rounds and expect to get a decision (against him), especially in Wales.

"That's why I say it doesn't matter where you go to fight him, because you've got to knock him out wherever you go.

"I've got to knock him out but Hopkins doesn't have the power to knock him out.

"That's why he doesn't want to go over there and fight and I don't blame him. But I'll take the gamble."

With the way Trinidad punches and the way RJJ holds punches I think its unwise to be looking past this weekends bout?

Does RJJ realise that JC's moved up to LHW?

Fair play to RJJ for wanting to come over, but its not a fight I'd particularly get excited about. I'd much prefer to see JC in with a younger peak-level fighter like Froch or Dawson.

RJJ would bring the BIG bucks over with him if he comes, so that'll tick all of JC's opponent boxes. Wonder if RJJ will bring 20,000 fans in tow???

Calzaghe would have been match for Jones when Jones was prime, now Joe is reaching his prime, and Jones is on the decline, simple math...

As great as Calzaghe's proven himself to be, am I the only one who thinks Jones would have dominated him back in 1999/2000 when the fight was first mentioned?

The only thing I could see bothering Jones is the fact that Calzaghe was/is a southpaw. Jones has never looked as smooth against lefties as he does with orthadox fighters. I just don't see JC being a match for a Roy Jones firing on all cylinders, in his light-heavyweight pomp.

In 2008, though, it's a different story. Calzaghe would win at a canter, I think.

Hopkins only has the Ring title at 175 so Calzaghe could in theory move up and fight Hopkins then come back and defend against Jones.

only one? lol no. Joe would have had no chance in their primes. He may have lasted the distance.
