As you've probably read I'd drop in on Archie at his Boy's Club. I don't know where this guy got the idea about Moore doing a flop with Marciano. Archie told me that he put up not only 50g's(promotions) to get Marciano to fight him,but that he was in tremendous physical condition. Moore told me that like many fighters of that era(Walcott,Charles)that he could out box Marciano. What Moore didn'i realize was the degree of Rocky's strength and durability. He told me that Rocky was a "great Fighter"
The Patterson fight was a disappointment. I never brought it up. Archie had gotten away from boxing after Marciano and was traveling with a jazz group. When he got back to fighting he told me he should of had a
'tune up" before fighting Patterson. That's all he talked to me about that fight. In his bio,he said he was overtrained and he couldn't coordinate his legs. That's evident in the film.
As far as fixed fights, there were plenty of them, but very few fighters talked. And the ones that did often were using that as an excuse because they lost(Johnson/Willard) As you also have read,my father was in the Outfit in Chicago. He never discussed those things with me. Fixed fights or whatever. The problem is nothing was ever put down in writing. Like a "hit" or a fixed fight:those things weren't even discussed on the telephone, only in private conversations with the involved parties. Often the fighter even didn't know what was going on.

Yep. its right there.

Anyone that has seen the fight knows that there is no way it was fixed. Whether you are a Marciano or Moore fan or both, the fight was clearly a great encounter.
Two basic points to make, IF Moore had taken a payoff then why would he risk knocking Marciano out in the 2nd and why would he not just stay down after the 1st knockdown, which saves the suffering and four other knockdowns?
Seriously you should know better!

..the very title of this thread is nonsense and i don't know just howit got revived. there are all sorts of ways to dispute it and that have all been posted.....but they do all come down to rigby's statement....moore would not have hit rocky with that punch in the second round.....one hell of a way for a guy to try to tank it, right? and , as rocket goes on...the two battled going all out and moore was not a masochist....he wouldn't have taken that punishment if he was going to quit anyway.
..maybe this thread should just be put to rest once and for all..

I agree...threads of this nature add nothing to the debate of boxing and honestly have no place in the debate. Now I am all for free speech, but when obvious facts are smudged completely lying about a fight then it should be erased as it does nothing wastes peoples time...

is the irony lost on everyone? The title is bogus even if the author believed it at the time he posted it...and the discussion leads anyone to understand the depth of the nonsense.
I understand the sentiment to extinguish all misleading propoganda....but the best way to do that is to let crap fall off of walls BY IT"S VERY OWN WEIGHT!
No one disagrees with the title of this thread more than me.
I do agree that it's a fine thread to lock at this point. But I hope no one ever deletes it. Lies and propoganda always dissolve when a light is shone upon it.... but to censor such things is like creating a needless martyr.
