I'm not sure if even a prime Gomez would have ripped through Carl, Carl deserves credit for fighting a brave and intelligent fight against Gomez... Gomez has always been one dimenstional and erratic so I think Carl would always have been a tough fight for him even 5 or 6 years ago.
Having said that Gomez has certainly lost a lot of the old snap in his punches and his reflexes are poor, ...his defence (never his greatest asset!) is now more or less non-existant....
