Looks like no Rigondeaux and Lara.
I saw an article that interviewed Teofilo Stevenson who is now the VP of the Cuban boxing federation. He said he thought that they should be allowed to box again. He probably knows that their second string does not compare to the experience guys like Rigo and Lara. I guess what he says does not matter though.

Hopefully Alfonso beats Lopez again. Michel has had his chances and didn't take them. He lost to an egyptian at the 2004 Olympics (a very bad decision though) and prevented us from an interesting battle with Povetkin in the final.
At this stage my picks for the cuban line-up for the Olympic qualifier in Trinidad & Tobago is the following:
48: Yampier Hernandez
51: Andry Laffita
54: Yankiel Leon
57: Idel Torriente
60: Yordenis Ugas
64: Rosniel Iglesias
69: Carlos Banteaux (although veteran Yudel Jhonson holds a good chance)
75: Emilio Correa (maybe 2006 World Jrs Champ Luis E.Garcia Campoalegre could still get a chance)
81: Julio César De La Cruz (although maybe the experience of Yordanis Despaigne is considered)
91: Osmay Acosta
+91: Robert Alfonso

The Cubans have basically screwed over everybody in the heavyweight and superheavyweight divison, since only the gold medalist at the T&T Qualifier goes. So everybody is going to have to wait. With all the expirenced fighters from the Americas already qualified basically, i would definatly not be surpised if the Cubans had a clean sweep at the first Qualifierlocoxelbox wrote:Hopefully Alfonso beats Lopez again. Santi, Any chance to see Rigo and Lara at Olympic qualifications at the last moment? As i know Rigo is still training?
Cuba will come with full team at "Strandja cup", but with junior squad, three of them became world champions as the organizers said (i do not know the names that will come, so the info isn't sure).

Thanks for the results... I guess that Rigondeaux and Lara have to be seen to be punished in some way.locoxelbox wrote:Finals of Cuban Nationals:

I hope that common sense will previal and Stevenson allows them to continue their careers.

It's not up to Stevenson if they will fight again or not. I think only Fidel Castro or Cuban Sports authoriteis can permit them to box again.

Regarding Rigondeaux and Erislandy Lara, Pedro Roque, the Cuban headcoach, said "I don't think they deserve another chance, they betrayed the confidence not only of their teammates but also of everyone who believed in them as representatives of the Cuban National Team in the world of boxing. In my opinion they had their chance and they made their choice. Thus now they should not continue boxing but they should continue as coaches teaching others".
