JONES VS TRINIDAD RESULT (SPOILER)

Well, enjoyed the fight far more than I actually thought I would - say what you want about Jones, but he's still a great showman.
It panned out pretty much as people expected, with Tito finding the step-up in weight too much - despite connecting with some lovely left hooks to the body he failed to make a dent in Jones at any point.
Jones looked at least a weight division bigger and had the swagger that can only come from being in with someone you know can't hurt you.
However, while he had flashes of the old brilliance, he's clearly not the fighter he was. His frequent showboating was used to mask the fact he was pacing himself very carefully in my opinion and the blinding combinations have all but disappeared, to be replaced by a reliance on single shots.
Trinidad should head back into retirement and at least he had the satisfaction of lasting the distance, while Calzaghe has nothing to fear from Jones, who on this showing would struggle with Joe's work-rate.

what the hell was that little skip thing back to his corner Roy did at the end of the 5th/6th? definitely the campest thing I've ever seen a fighter do.

can't believe how little effect those body shots had on RJJ, they looked heavy enough to me and Tito landed a fair few of 'em. Credit to Roy, although the constant showboating was annoying.

I too found the 'hot-dogging' very annoying and not in the least entertaining. Loved the commentator's comment after that bizarre 'dance' he did. Jones clearly can only fight in spurts and shouldn't think about going anywhere near Calzaghe. Really this would be the perfect way for Roy to bow out but it isn't going to happen.

Tito looked better than I expected him to and yes, his lefts to the body looked very sharp. I was surprised just how much bigger Roy looked - seeing him on his own at the weigh in I thought he looked too skinny but up against Trinidad he looked much the bigger man.

It was a fairly tedious fight in my opinion - Trinidad never looked like he could hurt Jones, nor was he quite strong or quick enough to be a points contender.

I enjoyed it and to be honest I think Jones will give Calzaghe a better contest than many here are thinking, I thik Joe beats him, but Jones has adapted his defence and can bang hard enough to give Joe a little something to think about. Interesting to hear Jones between rounds, he runs the corner doesnt he. Where has the term "hotdogging" come from? Not too keen on that. Also, one of the commentators had a sore throat so didnt say anything!!!!

Glad setanta are picking these fights up.

I think the commentator said hot-dogging 3/4 times a round for the first 6/7 rounds - it was getting annoying, especially when he meant show-boating. I think.

I think Jones and B-Hop give JC very good fights, i dont think JC is shit hot fave in either of them.

I agree, both guys give Joe a hard nights work. Would like to see Kessler in with one or both too.

Oh come on... Calzaghe throws about 80 punches around and Jones was made to look good (not great) by a puffed up, very slow version of Trinidad who hadn't fought for more than two years and back then was beaten much easier by Winky Wright. Tito couldn't pull the trigger at all and the only shot that harked back to his welterweight peak was his left hook to the body and even at 39, Jones is in great shape and could take/block most of those.

Jones would not last the fight against Calzaghe and I tell you what, I don't think Hopkins will either.

Five years ago might have been a different story but I think asking a 39 and 42 year old to beat Calzaghe who's on top form is asking a bit much.

Anthony Hanshaw gave Jones a better fight than Trinidad.
