Boxing at British Libraries?
Boxing at British Libraries?
"Boxing"... "Boxing News" at British Libraries?
Do you think they have them from 1909-present?
throughout the country or maybe just 'major' locations - which ones?

I would imagine that only major, big libraries would carry a full run, which I do not know what libraries in the UK would be likely holders, Oxford perhaps? Boxing News is one of the most valuable boxing resources out there...they were really quite thorough with UK fights and had a lot of info on fights in other European countries. I also really enjoy "Mirror of Life and Boxing World," which may have been even more thorough on early UK boxing...they certainly have some really good writing in the teens.
The British Newspaper Library, based at Colindale in North London, has every copy of Boxing/Boxing News.
I'm not sure about the holidings at other libraries, but I doubt there are many that would have it - they tend to stick to papers local to the area.
The Topical Times reported boxing, but Boxing/Boxing News has always been by far the best publication for results. The Sporting Life was also pretty good for boxing results and fight reports.

Jim---I'm right in the middle of treatment on my liver, which it's a type of chemo-therapy. I've been in the treatment a little over two months now, which is about right as my absence on the net was close to two months.
Right now I basically just have one, or two good days a week where I can actually get a little done, but I am usually wiped out by the treatment for most of the week. I only have four more months to go and I'll be finished and hopefully my liver will be in a lot better shape afterwards, well thats pretty much a certain, but during the rest of this time I will likely be very inactive, but I try to respond to people like yourself and other IBRO members and other friends in the boxing community!

well Barry you know I had a small bout with cancer and 4 years later so far so good, and I knew you were having some problems that you were overcoming and ofcourse I hope you still are! It's funny I guess there really is 'justice' - you pay for your sins - and of course what I mean by that is the Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll lifestyle that we choose once upon a time.
No regrets from an enjoyment perspective, but 'deeply' sorry for the selfish manner in which I hurt or troubled others, often without realising (too selfish), but God is good and likewise 'most' of us grow up and can face our circumstances with maturity, honesty and hope. Keep up the good fight Barry, you do a good thing for boxing and like me you advance the Good Ones often lost to time & circumstance.
Yours Jim... still like the music though!

I really appreciate it guys. In the end things should be fine, which is why I am doing the treatment now...it's the right time and a few months of discomfort will certainly be worth the end result, but thanks very much for the kind words!
Jim---It really is a kind of poetic justice...in a sense. I had thought for years that I had luckily slipped by the radar with my reckless living, but as we get a little older things do catch up, which I am actually pretty fortunate in that I could be in a hell of a lot worser shape than I am...a big percentage of my old friends and the people that I use to associate with are now actually dead, so I really came out very fortunate!
