Arturo Gatti fights Italy's Gianluca Branco for the vacant WBC light-welterweight title this Saturday. I can't help feeling it should be Hatton taking on "Thunder" instead.
But, no, Hatton took the WBU route; Branco went down the trickier European title path, won the title with an excellent win in France, then secured himself the WBC number one slot with a couple of routine defences at home. One risky fight for so much gain. Hatton, or more importantly his camp, was not prepared to take the same risk.
British boxing is the bigger loser.

dont know why fighters dont want to win the euro title and go from there

warren is probably starting talks with gatti camp if he wins.

so hatton vs gatti 2004 is a good thing

yeah hattons career has been handled all wrong

he needed to get a move on cos of his style and cos the division is not very open what with there being only 1 champion

but instead of that he's been fed rubbish and fought guys that r past it and he still has to take on the best guys in the division. time's ticking and he's still not made it yet, which i think is a tragedy for a guy of his obvious talent :x

I think everyone is missing the point. Gatti wanted an easy fight which set him up with a title, I don't think he would have taken on Hatton after the injury, three hard fights, and a hand injury.

I think Hatton has made enough of a profile for himself now, to perhaps get a crack at Gatti next, though someone like mayweather may get into the mix yet.

I think Hatton v Judah might be pretty close too..

Very confident about the Judah and Spinks outcome, your the king of the predictions leagues. Why are you so confident. If he does win, then I agree he will probably stay at his new weight - but I can't see him winning myself (although it is a close call).

King was offering very poor money to the Spinks camp for Spinks vs Mayorga II. I'm not sure if this a better deal was offered, but Spinks feels that its better to go for some new meat as opposed to Mayorga directly again.

If Spinks wins except to see Spinks vs Mayorga II in the Summer, if Judah wins expect to see Judah vs Mayorga in the summer. Don wants Ricardo back as champion.

Mayorga will have a short shelf life I think, so he's keen to exploit his star potential before he turns to shit.

I wonder if Judah's bitten off a little more than he can chew. Spinks will make it hard for spinks, and is a natural welter. I don't think Judah will be able to hurt him, at least not with east.

The fight seems likely to be an absolute stinker.

Like most of Judah's fights come to think of it, he's definately perfected Mayweather's "Bore" qualities
