Have to agree with that, and I don't think he'll take a massive hammering, he's too clever for that.
He'll lose, but he won't take a pasting, let's not forget he's coming off two big wins at this weight.

he doesnt hold a title, does he? Other than "the ring title", and you wouldnt say "Calzaghe fights hopkins for ring title", or would you?overhand_right wrote:What do you mean 'non-title'?
B-Hop is the LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION, this is his 2nd defence.
And since when was he referred to as 'Nard'????
Ive seen him referred to as 'Nard' since Ive been on message boards, approx 7 years.

Who gives a fook about the alphabet belts???? Tarver and Johnson were ridiculously stripped for unifying, then B-Hop beat Tarver.Wales wrote:he doesnt hold a title, does he? The belts rightly belong to B-Hop.

These are the reasons that i can see aiding Hopkins in this fight.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I think that Hopkins will hold, spoil and maul his way to losing a lopsided inanimous decision. Just think Hopkins' cleverness can be enough to win this fight. He's by far Calzaghe's toughest opponent.

I think that if Taylor can outwork him then Calzaghe can do so more easily. Admittedly Calzaghe lacks Taylors huge reach, but his angles and positioning are better. The quiet man 2004 wrote:These are the reasons that i can see aiding Hopkins in this fight.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I think that Hopkins will hold, spoil and maul his way to losing a lopsided inanimous decision. These are the only two blips on Hopkins' fine record, and both decisions were a little contentious.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I think that if Taylor can outwork him then Calzaghe can do so more easily. Hopkins' has progressed well since these two defeats, emerging victorious against awkward southpaws Tarver and Wright. His weakness against Calzaghe will be dealing with the speed of Joe's shots and the amount of punches being thrown. Thtas why i think he'll tie Joe up for the majority of the fight and do the majority of his work on the inside.
I also think the referee and judges are crucial in this fight. Who wants to bet that the issue of Calzaghe's slaps will be brought up leading to the fight. We may well see another Cortez-gate scandal

To some extent, i agree. Most seem to think this will be a cake walk for Calzaghe believing that he will give Hopkins a pasting. I personally think it will be close(ish), Hopkins is a very intelligent fighter and this will be no easy night for Joe. Hopkins is well on in age now, but i believe Calzaghe showed wear & tear in the Kessler fight. He was tiring down the stretch IMO and his pop looked significantly weaker as the fight wore on. I do not see Calzaghe winning this by KO, the most like'ly scenario IMO will be a close points win for Calzaghe, something like 115 - 113 but i'm not going to be shocked of Hopkins pulls it off.Riddick Blowe wrote:more i think about this more i think old bernard can win.
I think he can creak out one more performance and counter calzaghe all night with more effective punches. the fight will be difficult to score.
The article says its a 'non title' fight, don't shoot the messenger.overhand_right wrote:What do you mean 'non-title'?

Bernard Hopkins has been known as Nard as long as I've heard of him

A distance fight with Calzaghe taking a comfortable but close decision - I dont believe Calzaghe is going to stop Hopkins, and I don't think Hopkins can stop Calzaghe either.
So it comes down to has the better boxing brain - In their primes it would be a tough one to call, but at this point Calzaghe looks far fresher and his work output is huge compared to hopkins.
It's going to be like the Bike fight, with clazgahe getting roughed up, but taking a clear win.
