Giving Witter the best payday of his life?
I know Hatton-Witter has been and is being discussed extensively elsewhere, but it just occurred to me that Hatton not wanting to give Witter a payday holds even less water when you consider:
Witter has gone on record as saying he would let Hatton have the lion's share of the purse, despite being champion.
So, if Hatton is so annoyed by Witter's antics, he can get double satisfaction by not only beating him, but by beating him AND getting more money than him.
That is, of course, assuming Hatton believes he CAN beat him...

sadly so - I wonder how much he feels his own mortality after the pasting he received, round six on, in Vegas, and how much he therefore feels that Witter's awkward style, hand speed and movemen it would be a big ask for a come back fight. Thing is, if he came out and said as much, and assured everyone that he would take Junior on, say, in December, then there would be no problem...

I think it makes sense, fighters duck other fighters - Henry Cooper blatantly admits that he ducked George Chuvalo saying he didn't want to go to Toronto to defend his Commonwealth title but the real reason it being Chuvalo would have panned Cooper allover the place.
Tony Sibson called Herol Graham 'a limbo dancer' but had the sense not to fight him.
If Hatton was to fight Witter I'm sure Hatton would want the fight at welterweight.
Hatton is coming to the end of his career and is eyeing one last huge payday in the states - against de la Hoya - a tall counterpuncher with an excellent jab and KO power - the worst style for Hatton to fight but its another few million in the bank!
And I know everyone is going on about Hattons legacy but it won't be damaged because he didn't get involved in a domestic civil war with Junior Witter. Look back at Eubank/Benn/Sibson who ducked Graham, did that fact really damage their reputations? Especially on a worldwide scale? I don't think so.

Not wanting to give Witter a payday is the most feeble excuse for not fighting someone that I've ever heard. I don't like Hattons 'fornicate the fans' attitude, first they didn't negotiate any extra tickets for the Hatton Army (probably so they could further line their own pockets) and now he continues to dodge his arch-rival, fellow Brit and his fellow contender for the #1 spot at the weight.
This is the highest profile avoidance saga that I can remember and it has to affect Hattons legacy

Hatton knows he isn't going to beat Witter, he just wants to retire and go off to the pub but wants the best deal for himself one final time before he can do that.Chambers2 wrote:Not wanting to give Witter a payday is the most feeble excuse for not fighting someone that I've ever heard. Hatton had the beatings of Witter but that time has come and gone.
Hatton doesn't really have to fight Witter and he knows it. It must be very frustrating for Junior Witter but at least Hatton isn't going to fight Rees and retire 'champion' now that would have been an insult to the intelligence of all boxing fans.

Of course he will accept taking less money than Hatton, he is in no position to call the shots.oliverfennell wrote:Witter has gone on record as saying he would let Hatton have the lion's share of the purse, despite being champion.
He would still be giving him his biggest pay day, unless there was a clause in the contract that Witter only gets payed if he wins, or something similar.oliverfennell wrote:So, if Hatton is so annoyed by Witter's antics, he can get double satisfaction by not only beating him, but by beating him AND getting more money than him.

Exactly mate its all nonsense he will fight mayweather but wont fight witter lol.Captain Hook wrote:God .....why oh why is Witter getting so much time and credit on here! Hatton's avoided Witter yet faced Tszyu, Castillo, Mayweather et al..?!
give me a break.
I think its a great reason from hatton why give witter a huge payday? this giving hatton lions share is nonsense witter holding one of the belts is irrelavent hatton is the champ at light welter hes the man to beat, hes only been beaten by the best pound for pound fighter in his backyard.
just out of intrest what is witter earning just now a fight? and what would he earn fighting hatton??

I'm gobsmacked that some peiople don't want to see the best 2 in Britain and the World square off against each other. I presume you'd prefer Hatton to give Lazcano a one-sided beatingbigped wrote:Exactly mate its all nonsense he will fight mayweather but wont fight witter lol.Captain Hook wrote:God .....why oh why is Witter getting so much time and credit on here! I don't see Mayweather or Kostya as being high risk career fights, if/when Hatton lost to either fighter it hardly effects Hattons reputation as they are both All Time Greats, theres no disgrace in losing to a legend. In terms of Hattons reputation these were low-risk fights, where as Hatton has to put it all on the line to fight Junior!!
Britain has the best 2 140lbers in the world and we can't get them in the same ring together, just as we thought British boxing was pulling itself out of the duldrums by staging some excellent long-awaited matches, Hatton kicks the sport in the knackers again by refusing to be involved in the BIGGEST all-British ever clash (IMO). It truly beggars belief. 99.99999% of British boxers would snap your hand off if they were offered the chance to be involved in the BIGGEST all British clash of all times.
Hattons told us hes not in the game for the money its all about his reputation and legacy
and this is the worst example of dodging that I know ofDodging a fighter is a cardinal sin in boxing
That's an interesting point to address. Hatton has done well to win a world title and he has beaten plenty of alphabet champs it seems. So he's beyond doubt a world class Brit who can win at a very high level. But it's clear he is no great, and will never be as good as champ as, say, Tszyu, even if he beat the man. As such, it would be nice to have something that would put him in British boxing lore. Something to elevate him for the British fans in particular - Junior Witter. I think they'd find ways to really hype this fight in the UK. American money may not matter so much. If Hatton is such a PPV draw over here he can take the momentum of the last fight (Floyd) and work hard in the build up to make a decent killing PPV and live attendance wise, over here. I wonde,r if Haye-Mac does really well, whether there will be a big demand to see more Brit vs Brit, champ vs champ fights...Carlos-Wigan wrote:I think it makes sense, fighters duck other fighters - Henry Cooper blatantly admits that he ducked George Chuvalo saying he didn't want to go to Toronto to defend his Commonwealth title but the real reason it being Chuvalo would have panned Cooper allover the place.

Point taken Jamie, I am sure you are right but what is this vendetta against Witter all about - Its become a complete nonsense - I mean fighters do goad other fighters its part of boxing - You would think Witter had disrespected Hattons family for such deep feelings to exist - If having made his money Hatton is fighting for glory, his legacy and for his fans he must cut the bullshit about giving Witter his best payday and every other excuse and prove he is the best LWW - Its what the fans want, not Maignaggi or Torres - Beating Witter would give him total respect and acknowledgment as an ATG by almost everyone.Mooresy wrote:Just because Hatton would get the "lion's share", it still means that Witter would still be getting by FAR his best payday, so it makes no difference whether he gets the lions share or not.

You cant legitimately claim to be the best unless you prove it and Hatton hasnt done so - You may think he is, and he may think he is, but where is the proof he is - Witter has the main belt so he is the champ while Hatton is only the fans champ - Witter is the man to beat for lots of reasons.bigped wrote:Exactly mate its all nonsense he will fight mayweather but wont fight witter lol.Captain Hook wrote:God .....why oh why is Witter getting so much time and credit on here! hatton is 29
witter 33
hatton will give it a few years, when witter is kina past his best.
it will be another calzaghe - hopkins.
where calzaghe will prolly win and be called a legend for beating a shot figher,
witter will be shot, but there will be someway to make it look like a big event a titan fight

Bring Calzaghe into the arguement if you wish, but please dont suggest Joe has waited for Hopkins to get older - Joe pleaded with Hopkins to fight him quite a few years back when Hopkins was a prime fit fighter - Hopkins told Joe to get in line as there were others before him.observer1 wrote:hatton is 29

Re: Giving Witter the best payday of his life?
I don't think there is any argument about who would be getting more money. Hatton's argument is he doesn't want to give Witter the payday, period. Witter would still be making a fair bit more than usual even though he would be getting the short end of the stick.oliverfennell wrote:I know Hatton-Witter has been and is being discussed extensively elsewhere, but it just occurred to me that Hatton not wanting to give Witter a payday holds even less water when you consider:

I could understand Hatton if he was chasing bigger fights, but he's not, so his point of view is a load of s**t.
